I did find Mille Fleur Cochin bantam eggs on Ebay. Course there's no guarantee of color but I'm sure wanting to try another hatch.....

Yes, we both have Milles. I have several roos to choose from that I will part with for a bargain. I'm still looking at my pullets to see which I will keep.

71 degrees with a projected high of 102 degrees ~ a break in the heat!
We got a small amount of rain, but it all came in about 10 minutes. Fortunately, we didn't get the really high wind that some experienced.

All but 3 of my birds are Cochins bantams and they all are sweet.

One 6 week old little roo wants to peck me when I get the feeder out of the pen but that is just one in 75.

can[/u] fly up 4 feet and many of them like to roost up that high.

Wow, I didn't realize the bantams could fly at all. that is quite an accomlishment for a small round bird with soft feathers.

P&B we didn't get the expected wind either... did get a little rain though.​

I shut down the computers last night when we were seeing sooooo much cloud to ground lightening strikes.
We didn't get the high winds but we did get a much needed 1/2 inch of rain. Some of the ground crack were swelled shut this morning.

Enjoyed the morning outside. Everything smells and looks clean. We had a balmy 71 degrees this morning at 6:30 when I went out to let the girls out for range time. Jarvis Roo started crowing today for the first time...sounds like a young boy in choir that hits the rough notes....must have been enjoying the break in the temperatures. Even the older hens were acting like young birds during flight training. My three year old Delawares were actually lifting off the ground and cavorting around the barn. Lots of noisey hens this morning. Roger bought the hardware yesterday for hooking up the water cooler to the faucet. He and BIL got it going this morning. They have gone to feed cows and check fences at the leases.

Hope no one had serious damage with the storms last night.

Wayne, Sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope the meds get regulated. 95% of Alzheimers patients are passive and easy going without need for meds to control temperament. Hopefully her irate outbursts are due to a fluctuation in her meds that can be regulated quickly. Prayers for both you and your wife during the difficult decisions.

Morning folks! Wow we are in the 8o's and high will only be 90 today! I heard on the news where our great state of Oklahome just broke another record! They had the hottest month on record for any state in the history of weather keeping! Wow thats impressive! And all you guys can tell the grand children ,"yeah I remember the year 2011,boy was it hot!"
WEll we finally got home at 1:30 this morning. The sign on the front of the ER said average er time is 34 minutes, true to form MIL wasn't average,we didn't get out of er till 12 am,then had to get her settled in her room. I hope the other patients were able to get their needs attended because MIL was occuping the nurses with every 5 minute bathroom trips and numerous other complaints!It was nice for wife and I to get a few hours of uninteruped sleep tho.
Well I have get out and take advantage of this cool down and get some work done. Have the new doe rabbit busy making a nest this morning! Hope she has a nice litter.

Wayne, sounds like you and your wife are faced with some tough decisions, but it also sounds like it is too dangerous to go on as you have. This is such a difficult time of life. Wishing you the best.

Actually caught two raccoons last night, but one got away. Had Vashi get a new trap, and when I was setting it up, one step said (optional) but didn't say what the options would produce. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that it let the door down, but didn't brace it shut, so the coon got away. Waiting on neighbor to come dispatch this one.

Fortunately, they didn't get any more chickens. We're moving some to sturdier pens, 'though these pens have been sturdy for quite some time.

Appreciate the offers to help replace losses, but barring further wholesale losses, we've enough to build on our own. Biggest problem is that I was down to show quality only breeders--quite nice show quality at that--so any losses are bad. Several years of seletive breeding and high costs lost. Could be much worse, though.

I am glad to hear you caught one, the other(s) will still likely be back. In my experience when the coons are traveling together it is often the mother with young to teen kits the young ones are easy to catch as they get older they get smarter and harder to catch.
On a side note there are several coon hunters on here and around your area I'm sure that would gladly take that coon for either dog training or the hide.

im a mess today guys my wife left me yesterday and when to denver she is going back to here oldest sons father iv been crying so much i can't hadly see to typ but whanted to let every one know that i will be reducing the # of my flock im to big to do it bymyself and work 40+ hours and to small to hire somone so for know i have to sell somewhere around 300 ro so i have all diferant breeds and plan on keeping only the best if interested PM me thanks
