I did not know that about polenation and cherry trees! Growing up we had a big sour cherry tree in the yard. Mom encouraged us to climb aand play in it to keep the birds from eating the cherries. She hung tin foil pie plates in it to scare them off too. That tree must have been a self-polinator because it usually was loaded with fruit and there were no other cherry trees around. Mom made the best latice-top cherry pies, cherry raspberry too.
Michigan is the cherry capitol of the world, by the way. Japan has lots of cherry trees but they don't do much with the fruit, it is the blossoms they prize.
