***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have to agree with Michael Okies in the BYC are sure great people... we know we have our differences but the common thread of loving and enjoying animal husbandry keeps us united. I have been so amazed at the step up attitude Jason and our family has received in regards to our up coming move... wether by purchasing our birds, poultry related items or even just praying for us has been amazing and we are so so humbled by your gracious acts of kindness... P.O.O.P.S will be held in grand regard in our memories and I hope that the tradition of the Spring meet will continue as it will give Jason and I that push to come make a visit.

Home and garden booths start at 1800, for a 8x10 and go up from there. If they supply tables, and display set up aids it gets very high very fast. we spent over 8k on one event alone. at the expo.

Were you doing a booth for wind generators? I figured a booth would be expensive. Wonder how far out they book the stage demos but i never really seen much of an audience for demos on the stage. Wonder if nonprofits have cheaper booth space?

The booth was general residential energy conservation, utility based programs, solar and wing. But it is very expensive at the home and garden shows. The stage demos are by invitation from show management, I can provide you thier contact information if you are interested.

Thanks Jarvis, I do think it is a good idea, but not something I want to tackle on my own! Imagine soemthing on a small scale would be a better start, since coordinating something that large would require alot of planning.
Just spent the past hour battle over cheerleaders hairbows--- very important stuff --- cheer coach thinks all girls should wear matching pony tail bows, seems to not understand that not all girls hair fits in a pony tail-- much dramma for 6th grade Cheerleading. We somehow missed the part where ponytails are required to put on a cheer uniform. Sometimes I do miss homeschooling, much less to worry about, less homework too.

If someone could display a really cute and functional small coop (as yard "decoration") and put a poster up telling all the good things chickens do I bet it could work. I know Tulsa allows 6 hens in a backyard.

We're back home from the MWC hospital...spent all day there with MIL. Test results aren't back in yet about the possible blood clot. She is on IV for hydration and very comfortable now that the pain in her back and shouldblade has been addressed. Will know more tomorrow. Thank you for the prayers.

Looking forward to seedin Green Country photos...sounds like folks had a great time.

So much going on with the Okie thread -

Banjo - It sounds like the Green Country Swap was a success! Wish I had been able to go, but just have too much on my plate right now with trying to get the new coop built and battling a mild case of pneumonia (as expected, but thanks to antibiotics and lots of fluids, is getting better.) Do post pics though, so the rest of us can enjoy from afar.

Nanakat - Sorry to hear the news about your MIL. Will keep her and your family in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Keep us posted on her condition and progress.

Michael and others - Great ideas about educating the public and providing resources for those interested in poultry. I do have a little bit of web page building experience, if that's helpful. Not an expert, but have created web pages before. I'll be glad to help in any way I can - just let me know. The ideas that the others had are great, too. Having small booths at county fairs, festivals and that sort of thing would be a great way to lure more chicken addicts by showing them what's available (coops, different chicken breeds, breeders contact info, etc.) It sounds like a lot of fun, too.

There has been a chicken tragedy here. Something dug under the outdoor grow-out pen and got hold of the two little Wyandottes. The only thing found of them were a few feathers, a wing with some flesh attached and part of a comb. My best guess is that it was a raccoon or a feral cat. I guess it's my fault for not burying the wire under the cage, so that is on my list of things to get done around here, too. Also considering adding some hotwire.

Edited to say that Nanakat posted before I did. Glad she's being well cared for, and am praying that her test results come back with good news.

My vote on this would be skunk, look for hair left behind where it went under the fence.

Lay an "apron" of fencing material around the pen and stake it with lawn staples. Of course fasten it well to the bottom of the pen too.

Sorry you are dealing w predators upcdayz, hope you can get it reinforced.

Very frustrated w atwoods feed. Last month it was wet game starter (before we had any rain, so had to have been wet before the store got it) This time I bought a $20 bag of gamefeed -- more as a treat- it is a new feed they have. Mix of pellets, corn, boss & other stuff. The feed is full of little red bugs. I imagine my birds would still eat it, but for $20 I should not find bugs in my feed. DH is off work tomorrow. Might drive to Marlow feed store & see what they have, since they are closer than Carnegie.

I had a baby opposum dig under one of my A frames too. I lost a baby NN before I could get out there to get it.

Lots going on here tonight but I am hurting. My head is about to explode.

NanaKat, I did my peppers last night (love them) along with some bread & butter pickles. Lil'Sooner helped me the whole way & wants to know what we get to do next & I was also instructed to do more pickles. LOL.

Have a great night everyone.
