***OKIES in the BYC III ***

DH sent the photos as attachments, but I can only get three to upload.

When I took these photos I was at the middle of the auction barn, standing by the rail. Looking to my right, I photographed the birds that would be first in the auction. I brought home three lovely EE pullets from this group. The guineas looked nice, too, but Vesta has not settled down enough to try keeping guineas again.

The next photo shows what I saw looking left. The geese were lovely. The prices were low, which made me feel like a poultry thief when I was in the line to check out. An auction is a fickle medium for sales. Next year, with better weather and lots of advertising, the crowd will be bigger and the prices will be more in line with the value of the birds.

These turkeys were mighty tempting. Beautiful, beautiful birds. DH would probably have had me committed if I'd brought them home. He's still getting over the NN roo I bought. I haven't taken pictures of him yet. Maybe I'll have some by this afternoon.

I'm glad that EE roo is fitting in...I bet he will make some good looking offspring. We never messed around with him to much, but watching him he always seemed to have a pretty good disposition. I have to admit, we call DW's EE flock a mutt flock. When she first told that she had gotten some EE's, didn't know what to think....but now that we do have them, they've grown on me and it is neat seeing all the different colors run about the yard, each with its own personality. It's funny when the flock Roo finds something especially good to eat he will call all his ladies over to share in his find. It was a pleasure meeting you Saturday!

Poco Pollo- We actually have named that little Roo 'ol Blue. He seems to be working out great! We put him with a brown egg laying hen...hoping for some unique looking/coloring olive-egger off spring. You must have messed with him a lot...he is like a cat when you put food down, all under foot and likes to be picked up and petted...he's an awesome addition to the menagerie of birds we have. If I remember, will post photos some time. Sure enjoyed visiting with you Saturday!

I just remembered that I haven't had an opportunity to get my kennel back from my parents yet... I need it this week!

I was supposed to do that yesterday but forgot

Ah well. It'll all work out.

But when I get it, I'll have to get cracking on getting it set up right! Chickens, for the win!

Not much time to post this morning, but would like to let you know that I have access to everything from signs and banners to screen printed t-shirts. I work in a store where we do a lot of stuff like that, and my ds and bil are the owners, so I get a good discount.

So if anyone needs stuff for displays, I'd like to help. I think it would be fun to promote our addiction to others. I'm already planning on getting my mil addicted.

We got .8 of rain, not nearly enough, but I'm sure not going to complain. Hope everyone got a good soaking! Still praying for some pond water though.
Nana... hope your mil's report is a good one!
Carl.... Tell me what you know about wind/solar power. I'd like nothing better than to become more energy efficient.

I have pics to post for you too, but will have to wait until this pm.
Hope everyone has a great day!!

All I have is EE, and have nothing to compare them w/ but I absolutely love them, even if I get other varieties my main flock will likely remain EE. I don't breed purebreds or show or anything, so pretty eggs and pretty different chickens is all I am interested in. My only boy even though he is hatchery is a joy, has never shown human aggression, takes care of his girls, provides treats and protects them and it pretty to look at.

The auction was part of the Green Country Poultry Swap at the Adair Fair Grounds in Stilwell, OK. Joe coordinated the event. The proceeds benefit the local 4-H chicken and rabbit clubs. This was the first annual swap, so I'm thinking in about a year there will be another one.
