Lovely morning. Let both the big hens and the teen pens out together this morning.....SOOOOOO funny....no fights but lots of posturing. Then they split up and each flock went to a different part of the open grounds around the barn and equipment. Most went back into their own pen on their own when the treats were scattered. Of course the "old" girls got their treats first and then the teen pen.

Next came breakfast of pancakes, bacon and coffee. The boys are out puttering in the barn and don't need me for anything. Loved that 3rd cup of coffee.

Got one of my orders of soap supplies in. Only one more to go. Soap making in the next few weeks...planning about 500 bars.

Garden needs work and the forest of sunflowers needs cutting. There is a gopher working up the front yard... so that's where I will be for a little while. The boys got the dump truck tires aired up so the sunflower trees will go on there and out to the brushpile for the cows to pick through. May toss some of those flowers in the hen pens to brighten the yolks.

Everyone, enjoy your day!

That's what I do, MJ! I love it. It's one of my favorite things in the world.

Lynn- I have 3 Royal Palm turkeys. They're only 3 months old and are pets so I doubt I quality for being someone who "raises turkeys" lol Awesome pets though. Way more dependent and pet-like than even my most tame chickens. Really, they act more like little Chihuahua or Pomeranian puppies. All they want to do is get petted and kissed and have me cuddle them. I adore them!

Have you ever made any soap with Tea tree? I used to get a soap with Tea Tree, Witch Hazel and Verbena. Sound stinky but actuall smelled like an evening forest and was really godd for my skin. I'd pay alot for a few bars of that.

I have several recipes that use Tea Tree...Citrus Honey Oatmeal, Poison Ivy Bar, Butchers Blend, Lemon Verbena. Love using it. In different quantities it is not over-powering as eucalyptus. Will have to try that scent combination on a small batch to see how it goes. A lot of what makes a soap good for your skin is the combination of oils and fats in the soap. Some fats are more conditioning than others.

Wanted to say hi and welcome to all the new comers to the forum, I can't get on every morning like I used to and I really miss everyone but we are having to use the computers at the library for a while and only get there once or twice a week. So I am considering going to a pasture type grazing system for my chickens and working them into a rotation plan behind the horses and maybe some sheep and or goats on my ten acres! Does anyone out ther have any experience with this type of set up now? i would appreciate some coments on it if anyone has any, good or bad! You can email comments directly to me at [email protected] or post them on forum or both!!! We are cutting back and making some changes to our farm, as most of you know I will be out of a job when Mercruiser closed its doors in December. I am selling out of my hogs, just took 4 butcher hogs in today and I have two sows and a boar for sell, I have one of the sows hopefully bred and want to farrow her out before I sell her but the other sow is open and is about ready to wean this litter of pigs in a couple of weeks, they are all about 2-3 years old and healthy, tame, and good Meat type hogs. I will only be fattining out a couple at a time from here on to keep us in fresh meat. I am considering raising out a batch of Cornish cross to butcher also. We are considering getting a few weather lambs and kids to feed out and sell at market also. Thanks for the feed back!!! Sure mis ya all!!! Lynn

Hiya Lynn, Good to see your still here, I have 10 acres that I would like to figure out how to rotate the critters around on over time most of mine is wooded though maybe three fourths of it is, I am still fencing it off a bit at a time will take a while to get all the cross fencing done it gets costly to buy posts and wire but I'll get there someday,

I'm gonna head to the sale in Blanchard for a while to see whats there might be something I can't live without :)

Hope everyones having a great weekend..

Good Saturday Everyone!

Been out of touch since last night when they finally got my internet fixed (for now). Also some excuse why I do not have signal half the time. Actually found a company I may end up going with. The guy who is part owner of the company, grandparents live in my housing covenant and the tower is just 400 yards from my place. Well be $10 more a month but will twice as fast service and talking to my neighbors who have service with him they are all really happy. We'll see!

So who is going to Blanchard tonight? Did not go back an try to get caught up, but am hoping to get to see a lot of BYCers there. Harley is coming with me and has promised to be a perfect gentleman. His rehab is coming along really well. Still do not leave him unattended with the chickens but he does not try to go after them and will avoid them totally when they come near him.

Well we better get ready. Harley and I have already had a bath, so we don't stink, I promise. Okay will since Harley had parvo he is kinda gassy but I threatened to give him Gas-X if it continues.
