I must check on them at least 10 times a day.

Kisa is our 'bator guru; She has two loads of eggs going right now...one full of an assortment of chickens to include those Coronation Sussex eggs we got at Green Country and another full of quail. Hollar if you need anything...it's cool having another BYCer right down the road.

Pretty birds, OkieCluck! Where in SE Okla are you? I'm by Durant, so we may not be that far apart? smile

Thanks! I'm near Antlers, so about 45 minutes away. Don't get over to Durant alot, unless the wife needs a Roma's fix!!

Humm, perhaps she is trying to lay and egg and is egg bound? I have a Coronation Sussex hen that I had to bring up to the yard to keep my eye on. She acts like she is trying to push out an egg. She has very poor balance and can't walk very well.

any chance of botulism? what color is her poo? don't cull her just yet- its possible to pull them through in some situations- let me check my files- i did lose one to something similar, and the local 'elder' called it range fever- but if she were mine, isolate her, and monitor food and droppings

here are a couple links-

Thanks for the info. and I will save it for future reference. However, my county is the furthermost northeast county in the right top corner and is not under a burn ban. It sure scared the life of me to see that huge pile of molded hay, probably 15 to 20 round bales worth or more. I mean it's almost as tall as my neighbors story and a half house and a lot of grass around our area is tall and dry right now. Someone came by and made them put it out. Thank God, I was worried for my neighbor with terminal cancer, it's in his lungs and he can't be around smoke.

Ah, yes, we've had many special-occasion dinners at Romas

You ought to come over on Tuesday some time, and stop by the big poultry auction between Durant and Blue!

I've had a few friends go to that auction back in the spring, they really liked it. I'm afraid the wife might change the locks on the doors if I went anytime soon.

What started off as an idea to have about 10 chickens reached 18 very quickly and that's with giving 3 chicks to a friend. Of course after reading through these threads, I'm pretty sure that any chick that is sent to you over the amount you order, just doesn't count according to "chicken math".

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone about our chicks!

Had a busy morning outside in the nice cool fall weather. did some winterizeing(I know its way to early) of a couple of pens.Mainly just to keep the wind off the birds.Catstrophe struck tho,I dropped my 10 year old 18 volt screw gun and broke! Only like the ten thousandth time its been drooped. I'll be lost now, because I use it almost every day for something or the other, hardly ever use nails anymore.

Nana and Kass(thats kind of like saying Momma Kass, oops,I've aged myself!lol) her is proff that I really did do a quilt! I got the pattern off Quilters Cache.I thought about embrodering a map of the trail on the back but not for sure I want to put that much work into it. May do it this winter.
