I've got some LF Coronation Sussex eggs in the bator that we got from Joe..pretty excited to see them to see them hatch!

Lots of pretty bird pics posted last night!

Michael -- I think Macy looks pretty dolled up to be out hunting. Bet none of the other hunters spend that much time on their hair! My youngest could use a mentor like Macy. Youth deer hunt is this weekend on Ft Sill, but not sure if either of my girls actually want to go. They loose interest quickly, and just sitting & waiting on deer is BORING. Imagine the only hunting they will do will be out in the back yard, so they can go out for short amounts of time. Maybe after they actually get a deer they will want to spend more time hunting.

Took all weekend, but the guinea cage is finished. We went off the same frame, added an area for privacy in hopes they may lay eggs there & enlarged the run. Dug down 2 ft & burried all the metal for the coop. The coop should last MANY MANY years now. Very happy with how it turned out. Best part is everything for the coop was already on hand, didn't even need a trip to the hardware store! Most projects take at least 3 trips to the store, was a nice change!

Goal for this coming weekend is to dig a trench from the well house to the meter of our home. Plan on getting a whole house generator in the upcoming wks & need the well to be on the same meter so we can still have water when the power goes out.

I think that a shovel is now our most frequently used tool. Seem like every project requires digging! We rented a ditch witch to run the water lines & DH said the shovel was less work than controling the ditch witch. If we didn't have sandy soil I am sure he would feel differently!

so have you candeld your eggs yet ????

NanaKat, I have a gold lace Cochin (my lap baby), two Ameracauna mixes (I think), some Easter chick from Atwoods - she's my only sleek chicken, and a Polish rooster who needs a home as of his first crow this morning. I spend a couple of hours a day with them, scratching their chests and snapping lots of photos. All about five months old. Waiting for eggs!!!

Joe--- what are the chickens listed in bold on your byc page?

Of all your birds think the New Hampshire are my fav. we might need to get with you for eggs in the future.

Is your house total electric or a mix of gas and electric?

You can easily run 90% of the house on a 8kw generator so long as you have gas heat and hot water, otherwise turn teh breaker off to the hotwater tank and Central heat.
the average total electric heater has a 15-20kw heat strip and running that with teh whole house would require a 40kw generator, hot water tanks will have two elements that are between 3750 watts (3.75 kw) and 7500 watts (7.5kw) each so draw from these two sources will dramatically increase the size of teh generator required.

I keep a 7500 watt generator with a plug made to plug into a 100amp 220v ac breaker in the main breaker panel, turn teh main breaker off and the breakers for teh hotwater, and central heat and it runs teh house with no issues.
