***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey Betsy, How's everything?? Sure been quiet around here all the guineas gone.

I know we're all about chickens here but I've got a question some of you gardeners can answer. My neighbor gave me a lovely watermelon he grew in his garden. All outward apperances said it was ripe the patch on the bottom had turned yellow and the little twisty thing had dried up. It was not ripe not only that none he has picked so far have been ripe or near ripe. Got any ideas. The ones I grew years back the deer always beat me to stomping a hole in them and eating them.

Hi,
I'm cindy and i live in Mcalester Ok, been here for about 5 years. Really like it. I finally got chickens this spring.
I live on 3 acres and i have 3 toy poodles, one ACD puppy, 12 chickens, 4 ducks a QH mare and a donkey.

That was most likely a lack of adequate water. the stems were dying back before finishing the fruit due to a lack of moisture.

As for the deer, I understand that issue, we always plant two gardens, and 2-3 acres of melons. Most of it will be scattered out back thats for teh deer, otherwise they eat the whole garden up by the house.. We just learned to plant plenty extra and in two spots one away from teh house and one near the house.

I have a question, what is a coronation sussex?

I just got my new standard of perfection and cant find.
Is it a bantan only breed, or is it like an easteregger or sex link?

Does anyone else have trouble seeing pics on here? I am on dialup and cant get very many pages to even load. Seems to be pages with lots of pictures on them.

So far only 3 have hatched. About 30 left to go:jumpy
I'm having a hard time keeping that humidity up and the new chicks keep moving the eggs around. Is that going to effect hatching?

Your pen is awesome!

It is much easier to control the humidity in a room then it is a small space like an incubator. Put either a humidifier or vaporizer in the room the incubator is in and see what that does for you.

Congrats on the chickens! You have just introduced yourself to the biggest group of fun enablers that there are....before long, I'm sure you have more birds than you'll know what to do with!
