***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My main focus is coturnix quail but I also have a few chicken brood pens set up. LF Americana, Rhode island reds, white leghorns, and my newest addition buff brahams. Bantams black tail white & molted japs, white Cornish, bb reds & grey old English. Wow looking at it like that my wife may be right that I've gotten a little out of control.

Tried wrapping her in a towel but couldnt get the tube down, since her neck is so crooked. So being the loving wife that I am, and not wanting to drag dh out of bed, I brought the bird inside wrapped in a towel. Handed her to dh-- while he was still half asleep laying in bed. He held her in a towel like a baby while he held her neck straight. Tube went down with no problem. Gave her 35cc of molasses thinned with water. Took her back out to the chicken shed & put her in the cage. Will see how she fills in the am. Thanks for the advise. Nothing can hurt at this point!

I can just imagine the response I'd get if I shoved a towel laden chicken at my husband while he was asleep lol! Your husband must have the patience of a saint

Here is some info on a crop tube.

These are pictures of
1. The crop of a chicken and where it is located
2. How to insert a crop tube and hold a chicken when using it
3. A picture of a crop tube, a syringe (no needle) and 15 cm of soft tubing attached

I will attempt the crop tube. I do have all the stuff to do it, just not sure that one of my kids can hold the bird well enough to allow me to insert the tube. Dh is usually rushing out the door & prob can't help me in the am. Could try to wake him, but he is usually a pretty grumpy bear if he gets woken!

How much should I try to insert in the crop?

When I have had to tube, I wrap the bird in a towel so it is secure and then run the tube in...safer for both of us.

Muddy Morning, All!

It looks like some of my birds are wearing brown socks.

The goats are cranky too. Why is it that the cats will wade through water up to their bellies, but the goats won't leave their shelter if there's a puddle outside the door?

The tankless hotwater systems are quite nice I have used several of them. They offer whole house systems, and smaller ones that just mount down by the sinks and such, You will do best installing a whole house tankless and a small (6 gallon tank) under the cabinet for the kitchen. If you are on ONG you can get a rebate up to $850 for teh upgrade to tankless and OG&E and PSO both have great rebate programs right now too. PSO will provide rebates for energy conservation efforts up to 8K.
