Make sure it's alfalfa or alfalfa pellets and not hay. The vet said they'll pick the little flower looking peices off the alfalfa and not eat the stems. But they like to scratch through it all to get to the little pieces. I've jeard of several people having problems with their chickens getting impacted crops from regular hay. The vet hadn't heard of that but really-most people don't take their chickens to the vet because they're not 'pets'. I understand that as I wouldn't have spent 3 cents on the few horses I've owned (except my sweet mini) yet others spent thousands.
If I were you I'd get the actual bale of alfalfa instead of the pellets. While mine loved the seeds in the scratch I noticed they left a lot of the alfalfa pellets (the bale in a bag stuff). I wish I'd have gotten the actual square bale of alfalfa.
I can't sleep either. But now it's cuz I'm so happy and so relieved my little pullet is going to live, she's so much better & even flapping her wings. Can't believe how sick I've been over it all. Keeping things to yourself sucks.

Haha! Guineas are a hoot! I laugh every day at my 5.
Well to make you feel better......you know the gorgeous blue Silkie hen I got a few wks ago? I think I heard her crow yesterday

These birds just seem to transform into boys when I get them. It may've been one of the Marans boys, I'm still hoping it wasn't "Liza". Or "Liza" will be known as "Larry" and have to go into the Silkie Bachelor pen lol
Edit: Do you want a really pretty blue Silkie Roo??? lmao!

Mornin,
Guineas are so funny!
I have always had nightmares about dogs and cats that need my help and now I dream about chickens that need help too.

by the way, those girls of yours are so very sweet! and soft!

My crooked neck RIR is still hanging on. Dh said we should cull last night, told him she was making progress. He dn believe me. Went out opened the door to the chicken shed & she was sitting straight up in the chicken pen holding her head up right. He said hey little bird I was just about to kill you, guess we will wait. Of course he picked her up & her head did a 180. I will continue to medicate her with vitamins & see if she makes anymore improvement. Today I need to clean her cage good when I go out to give her meds.

DD got up early, went sit in the woods for about 45 min then came in & crawled back in bed. Thankful we have a short school week coming up! Dh boer head didnt get touched, I am sure he is sad. He just went back out to check on it. I am sure the coyotes are standing in the wood line laughing at him.
