***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well, made a trip to the Broken Arrow At woods today. Of course I went over to look at chicks and of course I bought one! I wanted to get more but we just hatched so many last week. They had naked necks, silkies, ameracaunas/aracaunas, frizzles/sizzles and everything else. What I was concerned about was how many they had. The poor things needed much more room. They had way too many. So in case anyone was looking, they have plenty to choose from.

Anyway, I've seen peeps on the silkie thread say that they trim back their silkie's crest if they pick them up, hold them eye level, and can't see their eyes. I would too because I'd feel guilty if they couldn't see where their water and food are.

Wow. Had a super busy day today. Started at 5:00 this morn went to the dog trade(a swap meet in sulphur) to sell off some of my birds that i didn't want to have to winter or just didn't need. Managed to sell everything that i took down there. Mostly just some guineas young roosters drake ducks and a few sets of bantams o yea and some quail. Got home did all the chores moved all the pens onto fresh grass and cleaned out all the brooders(there's 8 in all) moved around 50 quail from the brooder to an outdoor pen. Then after all that i set 100 quail eggs 2 dz white leghorn 2 dz mixed breed 1 dz americana 1 dz assorted bantams and 6 duck eggs. And now its finally time to stretch out in bed and relax.

its funny to see their reaction after you trim them- my poor staypuff jumped, she didn't see the scissors before i trimmed a bit around her face, and suddenly she jumped as she saw them and started looking around like 'woah! there is a world out here!' and stood there peering around- another thing some folks do is get a barrette and pin it back-

Years ago I put a new rooster in with the layers after them being roosterless for a couple of years. Each hen in turn came out and sparred with the rooster and one little hen ran around and watched the action from all angles. She was the last to take her turn at the rooster and let me tell you the fight was on.

She beat on that boy until he was starting to wobble on his feet and was not giving up so I had to rescue him. Funny thing was he was pretty aggressive towards other roosters and in really good condition.

Here is a pic of him trying to start a pen fight with a NN rooster twice his size. I put plywood between them four feet high and they would still jump up and try to get each other. Those two lived side by side for six months and then that day they decided that they no longer liked each other.

Roosters bickering remind me of 15 yr old boys lol
Faery, i blame this rooster one on my husband. He saw him 1st that day and pointed him out thinking it was a hen, too lol
It's ok though, he's just a darling little thing.
Robin, I gave the Polish a haircut, too. Their's grew so fast they couldn't see to walk by 2 months old. The 3 Polish are another breed that even my sweet wimpy Cochins pick on, I like the submissive ones.
