Update on ImaJean this morning...still no egg. Right now she is soaking in a big pan of warm water set in the kitchen sink. I have turned the kitchen into a maternity ward...towels on all surfaces, etc.
Using a syringe and tubing, I was able to introduce 3 cc of warm mineral oil to the cloaca and by gently manipulating her abdomen turned the egg so that the small end is now presented first. As the egg travels down the oviduct it is small end first and turns end over end as it drops into the cloaca. Chickens normally deliver their egg big end first from the vent, but hers was actually only half turned...crossways in the oviduct. Her egg has not yet dropped into the cloaca so should not have been turning yet. Because of its size, I'm hoping the small end will begin to stretch the opening of the oviduct into the cloaca and she will be able to drop her egg herself.
Because the egg is not yet in the cloaca, I will be unable to extract the egg without hurting her. So right now we are waiting. She is sleeping in the bowl of warm water.
On the other front,
Splash went back to her pen this morning with the other BLRW. They are freeranging in the outer pen and seem content. She is easy to pick up and treat and will be happier with her "Own Kind".
There was rejoicing in Angel's pen when I put Popeye back in there with her yesterday. That pen is taller than the convelescent cage he was in. She clucked to him and he chirped back. They are a funny pair...a blind white EE hen raising a black Cochin roo. Both are doing great after surgery.
And the two new CW babies are happy inside the house. Decided not to turn the heat on t=in the hottub room where I was going to keep them....besides they are fun to watch. They are set up on the second computer desk in the den. Red is loving it because he can sit on the loveseat and look over the back to watch the babies.
