Heck, I live outside city limits and I'm pretty sure my closest neighbors would love to kick me out of the rural 'hood' because of the noise my guineas make lol And if it's not the guineas it's the miniature donkey

I get so blasted attached to some animals, I wouldn't be able to let them go. I'd worry myself sick. I think I'm broken. I'd sure love the babies come spring though.

Got Game, I love how those Brazilians are built, they look solid as little rocks.
Great to see you stop in, Michael.
For the 1st time in 51 yrs I made a 4' x 4' frame for a coop that's actually square! I was so excited-haha! Every time I try to do something like that it turns out lop-sided.I used 2x2's and 2x4' for the legs. It turned out so good, inexpensive and went so fast with my husband holding the wood that I'm planning on making several more of different sizes. This one started out for the pigeons and now I've decided to use it for someone else and for the 2 pigeons I'm going to make a 4'x4' one with 2' legs and a 1' room at the top for their house and enclose the 2' legs with hardware cloth or some sort of fencing. Then they can have 16 sq ft underneath and a ladder leading up to their 16 sq ft house. They can't really fly because of their shape so that's not a concern with these 2 pigeons. I can't believe after ALL these years of trying to build stuff I never ever figured out the need for PILOT HOLES! Worked like a charm.

The building adventures sound very familiar!! I have learned so much about building and power tools in the last few years- i Love pilot holes!! now if i could get things measured so they will be the way i picture them!!!

and clean up the property the way i want- bless my FIL heart- he's a packrat and we have piles of junk that i can't clean out -

carah, i just fill buckets for water

Matt didn't hunt that weekend. Long story but he had to do some other stuff.

Robin, you might look into getting the black rubber type water so you can knock out the ice easier. All of my small pens have cookie tin heaters with one gal water's they are wonderful.

I think I have enough waterers for my birds that I will be switching them out daily -- or on WAY cold days might have to switch them out twice. My plan is to fill them in the nice warm house then use the four wheeler & take them to the birds. I will see how it works. On some yrs we hardly get bellow freezing. But we can only guess how crazy it will be this yr.

Have 45 jars of apple products done & my kitchen cleaned. Been canning none stop since kids left @ 730. Learned it is much faster, cleaner & easier to can without them helping. Now just have to figure out where I am going to store all these jars!

I didn't have to break into my new jars, but it was close. In the up coming weeks I do need to take inventory of what all can goods I still have. Sometimes I miss my walk-in pantry I had in Lawton. I could see all my pretty jars & knew how many I had of what. Here I have can goods stashed in every cabinet that has space to spare. Even put some under my bed--- that didn't go over well with dh!

jcatblum I have a place you can store all those jars as long as you don't expect them to stay full.

I have been trying to talk myself out of getting some apples & spending my weekend canning them!

I've replaced my camera battery pack and charger, so I'm able to take pictures again.

Joe - Here are a few photos of the coronation Sussex I got from you. The older of the two cockerels is starting to flesh out. He's a sweetie. All the coro girls have angelic faces, which is contrary to their bossy natures. Most of them are divas, so they get huffy if they feel ignored. The lights and splits are all growing well. My Barnevelders feel slighted if I stand in front of the Sussex pen too long.

Sooner when you smell all those apples cooking you won't regret it! I bought most of these on sale @ homeland for 57c a lb last wk. I imagine next wk I will wish I bought more. My kids will use a thing of apple pie filling almost every wk. Between just eating it & cobbler & such. The jelly will be the only thing that I might last until next yr.

Apple butter we use an entire jar at a time-- we use it on our biscuits the way most people eat gravy.

If you do apple pie filling the freezer recipe is easier & cheaper-- if you have the freezer space that is. I put it in ziplock bags & flatten them. Today I canned all of the pie filling--9 quart jars worth, but last week I froze it.

None of my neighbors have trees. I am trying to convince James to put a fruit tree in his back yard to replace the 4 maples we've cut down.

Corral those birds look pretty! Are they part of your meat program? The white feathers would make them easier to use I would think. I did a black feathered bird this weekend & still think there are stray black feathers hanging on!

If you ever stop shopping @ wm you won't miss it! I use to be a loyal wm shopper. Now I avoid the place & only go if there is a good markdown (like canning jars) or if I am filling in between big shopping trips. Not sure how far you are from the commissary, but once I began shopping there I began to hate wm prices!!! Army reserves gets commissary privileges, I am assuming Marines do too???
