Robin, that's wonderful that you took the time and trained the dogs. I've had over a dozen dogs for (literally) 20 yrs now. I don't have the luxury-or the trust-to spend the kind of time you did training them. Once they've mauled the livestock I just can't find it in me to ever trust them again. Since the last of my Pyrenees died I haven't trusted ANY of the dogs. The Pyrenees were gentle & sweet with everything, I'll never find that naturally again in a dog.
NanaKat, the White Faced Black Spanish are so pretty, I love how they look! Do you know what their temperament is like? Same with Modern Games & Shamo, awesome looking birds.
I'm really hoping to find 2 Faverolles hens for the pair I've got in Shawnee in Dec. Does anyone think I might have any luck?
MJ, I've become so attached to the little Silver Lace Cochin pair. I know they're not show quality but I could care less about that, let's face it-neither am I. Sigh. I'm putting those 2, the 2 Blue LF Cochins from Carl & the 2 Cochin Bantams from Robin (the yard bosses-haha) into an 8'x20' area. Part of it is roofed, it's 6' tall pickets and it has it's own access door into a 5'x7' area of the other wooden building. So he'll get his own little Cochin harem-too cool for such a sweet boy. The only one who'll allow him any liberties at the moment is his little Silver Lace girl, the 2 big Blue Cochins don't think he's worthy yet. But I figure he may get lucky over the cold winter snuggled up with them lol Surely they can't ignore his charms forever, he's such a good caretaker.
Firefly, you only THINK you're hooked on birds! Wait til you hatch some of your own, it's a whole different ballgame
I just found out from Faery there *is such a thing as bantam EE's. I've actually got more room than I do birds now & will have the 2 lone standard EE's in a 40'x50' yard with their own 1/2 of a wooden building with 1 7 yr old Barbado hair sheep. Don't you think that yard is just begging for a few Light Brahma & bantam EE's???? Yea, me, too.
SSHavny, I don't know of anyone with Red Star pullets. I have 6 RED Star hens I got at a swap meet last summer who are egg-laying machines! I feel so sorry for them because they were debeaked. But they sure eat fine. If anyone knows where to get any kind of bird it'd be Michael D.
