Hey Poco i thought i would let you know the trio is doing great they are growing in leaps and bounds.. the roo is going to be a big fellow and the pullets are getting prettier everyday ..

Thanks for the update. When the roo is mature, his blue/black feathers (tail and saddle) will look like a magical beetle when the sun hits just right.

Yes, Faery said hers is a bantam and I guess I didn't realize there was such a thing. I'm going to stick with adult birds from now on though. I get way too attached to babies, which is really stupid but I can't seem to help it. Losing the 3 I've lost this past month was every bit as hard as losing a puppy to me. So I've decided to get birds past chickhood from now on. I'm a sap, I know. I've got 2 standard EE's who have the muffs and everything, just 1 is laying and she lays white eggs. I guess some of them don't have the blue/green egg gene? Doesn't matter to me as I really like these 2 I've got. And it's great to know they come in Bantam!

Actually it does sound like a possible injury.

I was carrying them 2 at a time back to their new pen we finished for them yesterday and my husband reminded me that was the side that I had his wing squished up at a weird angle when I was going through the gate. I got to thinking about it and he was right. At the time he said something about it and how it looked like it hurt to have his wing stuck back that way. So while I feel like a horrible MamaHen at least an injury is something that can be fixed or dealt with. Unlike some strange disease

See? I try so hard to protect them and it always backfires. Sigh.

I have a Dark Cornish bantam like in your other picture also and I adore her so so much. Super personality and follows us around like a little miniature human child. If they were all like that I'd get more!

Okla, I forgot- was going to ask you if you have the plans for the A-Frames? I asked Carl on the list the other day but he must have missed it.

Evening All!

Okay I am so not down with the time change this year. Think I am going to head to bed here real shortly. The weather is not helping either, rainy weather makes me want to do the sleep thing.

Banjo Joe I love your ameraucanas!

You have white ones too, don't you? I only have one white and one dark blue laced ameraucana hen that survived the attack last week. I would be interested in eggs or chicks next spring.

I did score three of the biggest, most heavily muffed black ameraucana hens I have ever seen at the Newcastle sale Saturday. They are some hefty girls. There was a group of one beautiful splash roo and 7 blue laced hens but they sold them all together and I could not afford that many. Actually there was quite a few really nice birds at the sale this Saturday. I also scored a lovely pair of black sumantras, that are really sweet birds. Think I may have to get back into them, cuz they look like crows and are so perdy. hehehe!

On a sad note my giant black cochin hen died yesterday. Her crop was blown up like a balloon yesterday morning. I tried to flush it out but I think it was too much after all the stress she had already gone though. So I am in the market for giant cochin hens and another roo would be great, so I can start my ameracochin project next spring. Might have to break down and order chicks (which I hate to do) so I can have breeding stock when spring gets here, unless someone has eggs or chicks they want to sell.

Well I need to go to bed. No matter what the clock says it is my bedtime.

Night everyone!
