***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I took one of the small pumkins I grew this year and am making pumkin custard. This is a first for me, I have never made any kind of custard before ever. My Gma always cooked low fat, cholesterol, sugar so she never made custard and I was never used to eating it so never thought about it.

I was going to make cream of pumkin soup w/ it, but I made cream of broccoli soup yesterday (which I thought was amazing, the best I'd ever eaten since I've only ever eaten it out of a can) but Gary HATED it so much he wouldn't even eat it. So I reconcidered the whole cream of pumkin soup today.

Anyway my custard is in the oven as we speak, soooooooooooo

. I called my step mother who makes custard all the time to get the skinny on how to do it and a can of whipped cream incase it is edible.

What's for dinner tonight?

I'm making meatballs (veggie seasoning, garlic, onion, chopped dried mushrooms instead of bread crumbs, egg, parsley), will make an apple sauce to go over them from the semi-jelled apple jelly from last week. Sides are roasted potatoes and french cut green beans.

We are having store bought store bought pizza-- everyone here is on different schedules this wk, put the pizza in the oven now-- oldest DD & I will eat while it is fresh & hot. Other DD & DH can eat when they make it home.

Tomorrow is leftover chicken tossed in Alfredo wih veggies & pasta. Then I will be getting stuff ready for DH change of comand ceremony -- and church community thanksgiving dinner is next wk also. LOTS of cooking ahead!

I went to make our own families thanksgiving menu today-- so far the only plan I have is turkey!

Our biggest roo went after me today- and my nephew this weekend. If he keeps it up he will be dinner soon.

We are having toco soup for this nice wet cold evening! Tomorrow will be Garlic chicken in the crock pot with sides.......to be determined.

Joe you got kids showing goats now?

It's been a long day. Spent the morning working in the pantry areas and cleaning up broken glass jars and in the house putting boxes back up on closet shelves. It is amazing how much we seem to hang on to over the years. Spring cleaning this year will mean major de-cluttering.

We have been in thunderstorms and rain most of the morning and Roger says the front chimney is still securely attached to the house. The plan in the morning is to cover the roof with plywood to protect the roof from falling brick. The chimney in the back is stable, sitting on a concrete pad...at least for now....if it falls it will block the driveway until Roger moves the pieces with a tractor...won't take long. We have found more outside structural issues both on the home and now on the rent house chimney and inside rock wall.

Was advised today to call both the Oklahoma Emergency office and our county assessor to report the damages to both the home and the rent house. The taxes could be affected by the damages and the county needs 40 homes with damage and no earthquake insurance in order for FEMA to come in to offer low interest loans for those who need it for repairs.

Roger was willing to help set it up for others, but won't apply for FEMA himself...says he doesn't want to go thru the hoops and the time it would take to get approved so we will start on repairs soon. The chimneys and fireplaces will be the first hurdle. Inside walls are easy to bed and tape. Outside walls will need mortar and chalking around the windows and door jams that have separated. We have a great chimney sweep who can check the internal structure of the chimney still used to burn wood.

We are praying for no more earthquakes!
Thank you to everyone who has voiced encouragement...means a lot.

Now for the chickens...Jarvisroo was hobbling around today and checked him all over...could not find anything wrong with him...gave him treats and made sure he stayed warm and dry. Checked him several times..finally gave him 1/2 an antibiotic before bedtime with a bowl of feed inside the coop for the night.
Gave the hen house a good going over with oxine when the rains quit and re-worked the floor with peat moss and pine shavings. The girls gave us 25 eggs today.
The teen pen needed a little work on the drainage ditch to keep the water moving out instead of making a mud hole The teens gave 4 eggs today.

Dinner tonight is pork chops, poke and eggs and baked sweet potatoes.

Love the baby goats!

Nana Kat you & your family amaze me on the amount of work you guys get done & how you handle any hurdle that comes along! God Bless you & yours!

Pork chops sound so good! I think I will be having those Sat night as we will be "camping" out in a cabin for the soccer tournament & they have a grill outside that I can use. The cost to stay there vs. a hotel was the same but I won't have to deal with someone right next door & who knows might get to wet a hook, take some nice fall pic's or just go on a nice hike.
