My vines went crazy after the cool down, I would need a dumpster! actually a couple of dumpsters for the differant "stands" of tomatoes. Would just covering w/ sheets protect enough for a 29' night?

I forget where I read it but they covered theres with the fleece throw blankets to protect them because they were light but thicker than a sheet. Might be worth hitting a couple of thrift stores to see if you can find any.

actually it would work fairly well so long as it goes to the ground and covers the leaves. That would trap the ground heat and prevent frost on the plant. You should try trimming the plant back some on the long leaders that do not have fruit and would make it easier to cover as well as maintain. It will likely be fairly mild for a few more weeks minus a few nights so you should be able to maintain them for quite some time yet. Fruit ussually sets on teh newer leaders anyway so the older ones that are not productive when trimmed willl set out new growth and be beneficial to teh production of teh plant.

Thanks I'll do that cut back all none bearing limbs today and see how much covering I need to do for tomorrow (we may be sleeping on a naked bed!) lol

Kass another thing to do is put large containers of water by your plants before you cover them & leave them out there all day so the containers will warm up. Use any empty thing you can find, 2 litters, milk jugs & such. The containers of water (if warmed) take a while to freeze, so they provide some extra heat as well. I have seen market gardeners put 1 -2 litter on each side of the plant.

PB-- I did good to get the goats even in the barn! Dh didn't want the goat smell in his space. I moved a cattle pannel style hoop house inside the barn covered the ground with a bale of hay & promise to keep the hay clean & fresh. They are doing great. The lighter girl is starting to get playful, and climbing.
Last night the girls named them Carmel & Chocolate. I don't know if that is their names yet-- kids might come up with something else. Took some pics with my phone, barn is pretty dark, so phone pics not the best

Jeez, that's some scary stuff. I'm so sorry for your house. I'm doing all the pleading I can with Whoever's In Charge Up There to stop with the earthquakes, floods (and droughts).
We're 90% done with all these flippin' bird yards, I can't wait to be finished so I can start setting my Snake Gourd garden up around them! I think I got that idea from Kass?
I've built separate pens for the birds who were in with ones who got sick, even if they didn't get sick themselves. Then they're being separated further into male-female groups. If Ideal Hatchery hadn't sent me 90% MALES with my Silkie order things would've been a bit easier. But it is what it is so I'll deal with it.

If you weren't so far away I would offer up some of old fleece blankets. I cleaned out part of the attic last week and found a 2 Black trash bags full of them. I plan on taking all the blankets, bedding, 5 bags of clothes, and 6 bags of stuffed animals to our local domestic violence center. they need the donations worse than Goodwill or the salvation army, since they give them freely to those in need, and the women and children caught in that loop often leave with only what they are wearing.
