***OKIES in the BYC III ***

It will be strictly show birds, not this weekend but next weekend. Saturday early will be your best time to visit the sales area. The show will be 1/2 the size it was last year the entries were aparently limited to 2500 but expanded to 2900. Much less than the 5000 last year. Unfortunately we will not be showing this year, it was full up by the time our entries got in, Someone else here reported the same thing.
if your going there to buy take a pocket full of $$ they will be good but not cheap.

Howdy Neighbor! Thanks for the info and date correction. Hopefully not buying, don't really want to add more chickens this time of year. How are your chickens coming? Have any cochins or wyandottes? Oh man, you wouldn't believe the size of our cochin from you...well yes you would...but we call him boots because he has the most feathers on his feet and legs I have ever seen. He was the little black chick we bought and I don't think he is full grown yet. Still haven't heard him crow, but he isn't laying eggs either, so I am pretty sure its a "he". I think he will be a giant when he is fully grown and a beauty! Whatever do you give your chickens to get them so big?

He will not be done growing until at least 18 months of age, they get very very big. It was all just solid breeding and selection. We sold all of our Large fowl and will only have bantams from this point forward, the big birds were just too much of chow hound and waiting for them to fully mature and reach thier full potential then test mating and selecting again at 2 years of age just got to be too much. My bantams I can pick through at 10 months and test mate and make final selections by 12 months of age. Saved me almost 400lbs of feed a week compared to this time last year.

Talk to Jim Fish he is near edmond, he has some very good light brown and cream light brown dutch. he shows heavily and will treat you right on a starter set of birds. He is a great all around guy.

Ok one other thing. What's the deal with leaving some of the comb on oegb's when you trim them? I raised fighting chickens starting when i was 8 all the way up till they were outlawed here and even moved to Hawaii for a bit to raise them for a chicken fighter there and we all ways trimmed our roosters as close as possible. Just something that I've always wondered

With the OE bantam it is done differently for show, the others were trimmed to prevent a comb hold these are just trimmed for appearance and actually the dub job is part of teh overall score when they are judged.

As big as your large fowl were, I can believe they ate 400lbs a week!

What do you really want to know about them? Do you currently have gas or electric?

We are thinking of replacing our electric water heater with a gas one (rebate from ONG). We have wanted to do it since the WH is getting really old and definitely want to get a gas one. I was just wanting to see what everyone had to say about tankless. I looked at them a few years ago and wasn't sure they would be right for us. I didn't necessarily want to start a new discussion about it, just wanted to read what was already discussed:) Thanks!

Thanks Jarvis ill look him up. Ive always like the dutch bantams but didn't know a whole lot about them till here recently. When i first saw them I thought they were a spin off of oegb but Ive done alot of research about them and think there going to be my first show chickens hopefully.

A good one will not be cheap but is well worth the investment. You will still want a small electric 6 gallon under the kitchen sink though.
gas is teh way to go on the tankless they work better and last longer. if you are on OG&E there are rebates there as well since you will saving electricity, the rebates with ONG are a great program. I know the genetleman who is responsible for teh programs. if I can be of any help feel free to call or PM.

Ok so one last question i promise. What's the best way to get a hold of him? Just look him up in the phone book? Or think he'll be at the upcoming show cause i plane on going to it. It'll be my first chicken only show
