They are both pure asil, the stag is wahl blooded ( breeder that started this liner) and the hen is half wahl, held Hyderabad, another bloodline of asil. Asil are bred to have very little to no wattles, and the smaller the comb the better, the wahl line just tend to have a bit of a big comb. Hens should have zero comb or wattles. And thanks, i am very fond of these birds myself.

I see. Thanks for explaining about the different lines. Now it makes sense. They all look healthy and well care for.

Edited to ask another question: Why are the males called stags, rather than cockerels or roosters? Just curious.

You got me, these old cockers have gotten me in the habit of calling them stags.

Hay banjo i absolute love your leghorn bantam. Got any white ones. My dads been bugging the crap out of me to find him some but sofar Ive been unable to locate any.

Joe, how on earth do show people keep the feathers on those birds so perfect?? Those long feathers on the roosters are beautiful. And their feet are so clean, are they kept on wire before shows?

there are lots of tips to keep feathers in good condition but i find that plenty of room and clean bedding gose a long way the hard part is transporting them from your house to the show

Just today I filled all the pens with wheat straw, they'd eaten the grass down to nothing everywhere. They're having a blast, I had no idea there were little seeds and stuff in straw for them to eat. Anyway, I'm loving this for bedding in their pens. I can easily see tossing the old straw out to the back of the yard every couple weeks and throwing some more in. I really like it compared to bare dirt in their pens.
What do you use in pens for them? Those birds of yours have some gorgeous feathering.

I posted this girl in the breed section to see if anyone knew just what she was, you all know more about chicken breeds than the rest of the list put together-haha. So does anyone know what she is? She was sold to the girl I got her from as a Marans but she didn't think so because of the gold neck.
I got her from someone here.
Jackie, here's that little red Cochin, too. Her color turned out way cool. You can't see it much in the picture but she's got lighter colored lacing on all her feathers. Super pretty. The blue one I got from Robin has the same lacing. And Cochins are soooo soft compared to other chickens.
