I've heard you can just soak them in pickle juice. I LOVE boiled eggs and I love pickles, great suggestion.

thanks somtimes a "anny ol auction bird" that comes from a breeder that razes 100erds of pure shamos can be just as good genetic as a high $ bird

I know exactly what you're saying. It's the same old arguement about show dogs and working dogs. It's not easy to find a dog/bird with the right balance. I really don't want a bird who can't even be put in with hens but I do want one with the look of the rooster you just got. I guess that put me in the 5% group of people. I don't breed, don't show, would never fight anything. But I want a good quality animal, whether it's a bird, dog, donkey or horse, for their stable personalities and consistant behavior. Every once in a blue moon you'll find a dog, bird or whatever at an auction or shelter who's got all the right qualities. I'm betting that applies to the Shamo you got. I've got a few more months to decide on more birds so I have plenty of time.

I'm looking and looking and can't find the shut-off button on mine either-haha! He's so darn proud when he crows though, I wouldn't have the heart to shut it off. He hears the big roosters outside crowing and he joins right in, he thinks he's big, too!
I'm picking up the LF Faverolles pair at Shawnee but if I happen across any Dark Brahmas or Mille Fleir bantam Cochins I don't know that I'd be able to resist. Does anyone know if Bantam Dark Brahmas are common enough that they might be fore sale at the show?

How big of coop do you have? I had that problem before with chickens and the advice I was given was to lock them in their coop 3-4 days....feed and water in the coop. This teaches them that it isn't a bad place and they will associate it with home. I did that and on the fourth day let them out....that night they were all on the roost...in the coop on their own.

That coop is pretty good size, so I didn't have to worry about over crowding.

Just a thought

you must be an exhibitor, and have booked the sale space on your entry form.. There are others that will be sold and viewed in th eparking lot but most are conceled in enclosed trailers and pre-sold.

I like how you caught the one in mid crow.
Got a tether question for you, since I see yours birds have them...do you ever have problems with varmints getting your birds?

The black and rust is beautiful. Someone (like me) inexperienced in Game birds can't tell the difference in the various breeds. I just like the long legs and necks.

Okla..

Thanks! No, no website...maybe one day ill do a Facebook to link with other bird folks. I get a lot of odd looks from guys when they read my legbands and read Knuckle Dragger Lofts along with my phone number. (Knuckle Dragger was the name of a '48 Cadillac I had back when I had money and time. Long after I sold the Knuckle Dragger to pay for college, the name still follows me)

Currently I'm flying rollers, as you know, as well as tipplers. I'm in the process of building a 12x60, 4 room loft that ill be housing mostly American Fantails and Mookees, for showing. My Mookees and Fantails are being housed at friends lots till its finished. May also use one of those rooms for racing homers but that may be further into the future. I've got some excellent rollers right now. A few 30ft rollers....plus a few that try to push their way all the way down to China. I've gotta pull them out and put them in the breeder pen before they kill themselves! Yeah...I breed our of rolldowns... It's easier for em to learn control than big rolls, I personally think!

No, I don't watch tv. Don't even own one yet. If I wanna watch a show, I go to my parents house. Last nite I listened to the OSU game on the radio while dubbing some OEGBs. I'm not a big fan of those.type of shows like Swamp Folks, Hillbilly Handfishin, and The Hog Dog Show. I'd rather do it than watch it, plus it just gives someone up north reason to look at our rural lifestyle as entertainment. I don't know..maybe I'm just sensitive like that!
