She said she got them from a friend when they were babies but that's all I know about their history. Luckily hatchery birds are more than welcome here
Everyone here is still laying, I've got eggs coming out my ears. I kept expecting them to quit laying when it got darker earlier but instead 4 of the pullets *started laying.
Pullets hatched in spring will usually start laying in fall or winter, depending on the breed.
A few of my orloff are hatchery. Finding stock that didn't start out that way is difficult. To set my own strain, I'll be outcrossing to malay (an orloff foundation breed). I'm hopeful this will help make them stronger by bringing in some new genetics.
If for any reason you find yourself needing to rehome them, let me know.
That's going to be one good looking cross. I knew Orloffs were games but I didn't know Malay went into them. I didn't ask why the previous owners were keeping all the fluffy orange chickens and getting rid of these 2, I wondered if these 2 were picking on the others. I know they're not aggressive like other games but compared to those puffy orange ones I bet they were.
Poco, I had no earthly idea so much went into art. That really says a lot about your grand-daughter and you also. For her to put that sort of time and thought into a present is pretty impressive. And it's pretty obvious where she got the talent from
I've seen simple kits like that at Hobby Lobby or somewhere. I'd love to be able to do something like that and make it come out like she did. What's really cool is the whole time she was making it she was thinking of you. That's got to feel good.
