A couple photos of the smallest silkied Serama.
She's such a good mama. She's so small, she fits perfectly inside the the box I picked up at Home Depot a while back. After she hatches her eggs and moves out of the box, I think I'll decorate the box with contact paper.
I turned a plastic bin on it's side and put the nesting box inside. The burlap is hanging over the top edge to shield the hen from the direct light. She seems to like that as it provides a little more privacy for her. There's room for more boxes in there but so far no takers - except for the cat.

Afternoon all! Welcome AnnieOK! Okla-I-really-wanna-live here....Hope you have safe travels and all goes well with your family. You really do have a good heart to do what you do. Looks like lots of babies/chicks being born(pulled), or being "sat on" to be born...pretty exciting! We have 3 'bators going right now and with three brooders full of chicks...know those are always neat and fun to have around.
Talking of dispatching critters...went duck hunting this morning...think all the wind today blew them back North...except the one I brought home
Since we we plucking anyway, we had 4 roos that needed to go to freezer camp...and wife came up with a cool idea that helped a lot that I wanted to share with those that raise clucking food.

*side note- we have several chicken pens...but one "food" pen...once they enter there we don't consider them chickens anymore...anyway...
We always had the issue of holding the dispatched bird in the water without us either getting burnt or not getting the whole chicken dunked...well, my duck carrier was still out and the DW suggested that we put one leg in each side of the carrier to dunk...not only does this work really well....since the ends are wire I could "push" the bird down under the water with little effort.
I know there are other methods...but for our small one bird pot...this really worked well and wanted to share the idea.

AnnieOK, you have found a wonderful group of folks, who either live in Oklahoma or want to live in Oklahoma.
Disclaimer: some of those on this thread are addicted to hatching poultry, attending poultry auctions or otherwise acquiring poultry auctions. Since addicts tend to be enablers, some may try to assist you in the acquisition of the same addictions - and you may soon find yourself with more poultry than you ever thought you had room to house.
Annie, watch your back around "chicken math" as it is great when you are quantifying your flock to those who think raising poultry is nuts, but it doesn't help much with the building of more pens or the quantify of feed you have to bring home.
