Nana prayers for your husband & you.

I plan on going to the auction tomorrow night. My sisters kids are on the way out right now, they haven't been here in a few wks because of Christmas break. It was a nice break to not be on weekend babysitting duty. I say the kids behavior might be the only thing that keeps me away.

I pm'ed Carla early this wk, after some of her copper maran eggs, haven't heard back from her. Anyone else have Copper Marans that lay nice dark eggs like hers? I only have one dark egg layer & kids seem to fight over who gets the dark eggs! I would love to hatch a few more. Not really after feathered legs, not against them, but all my birds free range & the feathered legs get icky at times. So I prefer clean legged.

Nate,
It has been my experience with hatchery EEs that they don't usually lay a light blue egg - but instead are more likely to lay a green or pink egg. Also, they tend to have their own variety of lacing, instead of being a true Americauna recognized solid color. Unfortunately, I have to wait 5-6 months until they are laying to find this out. Do you know if there are any NPIP testers close to you? If so, it might be easiest to get birds that are already laying and have them NPIP tested, so you can see the color of the egg before committing a lot of time and feed to them.

They have to come from an NPIP source. Its just a regulation. I'm not going to order the Ameraucanas from a hatchery. I just need a the silver laced and the gold laced if I can't find them.

Nate

You ca find both in Wyandotte, and teh wyandotte lacing is easier to get right than sebright / polish. For your golden laced you will want BB Red and Golden laced. From extensive experience unless you are incredibly dedicated do not cross a silver hackled bird on a gold hackled bird and expect to get rid of either on every quickly, it can be done if very selective and if you really know what your selecting for though.

NanaKat - thank goodness your husband got that checked early like he did.

Got Game - good looking birds.

Had to use up some eggs to make room in the ice box so I made some creme brulee' this evening.

With cooking like that we might need to get together... I still have about 15-20 lbs of shrimp and some homemade Cajun Deer and Aligator Sausage.

I'm up for that most anytime! I enjoy cooking, just don't need to be cooking stuff like creme brulee'. Too fattening, but sure is good.
