***OKIES in the BYC III ***

You should have got some before I sold them all off. Madison woul dhave done soooooo good showing them. Now you have to deal with NanaKat..

I'm sure she would of liked them but she has a really hard time handeling the cochin as it is.

Those big boy's can be a handfull or three but they look great filling a show coop, top to bottom and side to side.

and that is MINE now. I had instructions from my wife to beg, borrow, or steal to get the pair. Steal I did, do I need to say how I paid for the pair?
People started asking aboiut them as soon as I had one the bid and I missed out on the babies.
The rocks that I buried and the electric fence that I put around the pen is already working. The dogs got curious this am and they found the wire, yelped real load, jumped back and ran home, sit and starred at my pen looking like "what was that".

You got that huge Cochin boy?? Wow, he was awesome! Some birds are worth the extra feed and he's one of them.

He's blue based so I'll call him Silver Blue

I'm anxious to see what color the babies will be. I'm only going to hatch out a few from them and just plan on keeping whatever hatches.
I got a picture of them in their quarantine quarters, the little girl is just talking up a storm.
The other picture is of the same bird-I didn't know what in the world they were (I got 2 of them) except they were the coolest looking birds. I love their little hats. The other one looks pretty much the same. Do you all think they're probably Polish mixes? I figured Polish mix instead of Silkie mix because of the lacing. They sure are wild looking. Someone else was bidding on them and I felt really bad for bidding against them but I really wanted them. Someone else wanted the Faverolles pair, too. But I was prepared to sell my husband to get them so there was no backing down once I decided I wanted those (which was the second I saw them).
I reeeeaaallly like all these birds I got last night.

You are correct on the spitshauben. I brought those to the auction. I bought all of a mans chickens up here at Clinton last week and they were in them. I kept 3 solid black ones of the same breed. Kept all the black hens of other breeds also, the others were big huge hens. I bought a blue NN rooster from Michael. I have 2 blue NN hens now and am going to cross the blue rooster into these black hens to get more as I have had no luck finding any blue NN hens. This way I can control what is in them to a certain degree. But back to the 2 hens you bought. Mine lay a large egg a little off white. They should lay a bunch of eggs as in Germany thatis what they were breed for.

Do you have any pictures of your blue NNs? I'd like to see them, if you do.

Here is a picture of one blue and one black

I have asked a friend named "specialK" to post here for help with a hen that has been attacked by a roo........I have VERY limited internet right now due to being at St. Francis with a friend.....if anyone can help her it would be appreciated. I don't know if she will post or not. I just hope she does.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies & suggestions on pumps & well stuff. We now have almost new everything. Out in a 1-1/2 HP pump & a new super size pressure tank (it is bigger than our water softner) and dh ran all new wires. He got started putting everything back together & found that the wires were worn & looked to be archin so we are thankful the well was even working! Since we wanted such a large pump that was the main issue. Locally I was only able to find a pump that would do 10 gpm. Not to be way picky but a girl should be able to wash her hands after she flushes the toilet & not have to wait until the tank is full! Now we should have all the pressure we could ever desire! By the time this is over DH might be pretty good @ well repair too!!!

After I managed to gather the parts in Okc I went to get an avacodo taco from Big Truck Taco. Came out my van wouldn't start! Had to call road side service to jump it. Then went got a new battery. My other one was almost 4 yrs old- so guess it had a good long life.

Tomorrow I would like to avoid any problems or issues & have a nice smooth stress free day. Think I will hang out with the chickens & goats

The little chick looks so cute decked on in it's fancy braces! Furniture pads must be so much easier than trying to tape dimes on! I will have to get some before I start setting eggs - always good to be prepared!

Oh my I LOVE the blue NN-- lmk if you try your hand at hatching some. Pretty pretty birds!!

Cowboy- did you move your guineas with you? Or rehome them?

If it is badly cut a few stitches may be in order. We just use white cotton thread and remove them in a week. If there is just a lot of blood present like around the face and comb just clean it up with some Betadine that has been diluted 50/50 with water. Just keep a close eye out for infection and let nature take it's course. It will scab over and look really nasty but fight the urge to use Hydrogen Peroxide on it. The Hydrogen Peroxide will destroy new flesh coming in and delay healing.

Be sure to check under both wings for puncture marks from spurs. They often go unnoticed and are hard to heal due to the humidity there.

Most injuries will heal with little intervention but one always has to watch for infection.

Thanks, I plan on hatching several of them this year. Will keep several pullets and eat lots of the cockerals. I will keep you in mind when I get some hatched. I rehomed all the guineas before the move. They reminded me too much of the dodo birds on the movie Ice Age.
