***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I look forward to the recipe as long as I can do it without a pressure canner. I think I will also borrow your idea of planting corn every two weeks. I think I will also consider doing this for other stuff like onions & lettuce. I am also planning to find one of me themomitors to put in the attic to see how cold it gets up there. I went up the other day & it was nice & cool but not freezing.....so that got me to thinking.....

Any thoughts?
I use my Incubator room to get them going, never thought about the attic.. Might need to add a light source for once they sprout..

teh Preserves will not require a pressure cooker. and They are vey simple to make too.
For lettuce I just plant plenty, when I cut it I leave about 1 1/2 inches and will continue to grow back untill it gets too hot. I do stagger plantings of Raddish though. Onion may not be a bad Idea, I like the onion greens,

hi folks, have one hatchling so far- an ee/BO cross, have 2 more to hatch- i hope... my ee broody is still playing musical nest box, i guess i need to confine her?

here is the new baby...she has a brown stripe running down her back

I was thinking of the attic to use as a root cellar of sorts. If it will stay cool but not freeze there are some squash that will last along time. My plants I will start in front of the french doors where they get plenty of light.

Robin at a glance I saw the thumb nail in the photo & thought that was a duckling!

As far as seedlings start my trays on top of the fridge & freezer. 2 reasons -- heat rises & the appliance puts of heat- so no heating mats required to speed up germination. Once the seeds germinate I move them to the greenhouse. I have a friend who has a large south facing picture window. She uses it to grow seedlings in with no supplemental lighting & her stuff always looks great.

Tomatoes do have MANY early varieties. The best way to maintain my tomato production is do several plantings through the season. I usually plant 4-6 varieties. My best producer is always Roma tomatoes. They seem to out perform my slicing tomatoes without any effort. With peppers my banana always out preform bell type. So I plant extra banana & cook with them like bell peppers.

Those planting spring gardens - I can never get a good head of cabbage before the works eat it, but kohlrabi taste like cabbage & grows really well for me. DH grew up eating kohlrabi & it isn't in stores around here so that is why I began growing it.
