***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Morning Okie's~

After feeding and watering everyone, I was stunned to see there were 84 unread posts on the Okies thread. Sooner - The buzzing bee avatar made me want to hurry up, hurry up, hurry up and read all the posts. It's like having someone read over your shoulder.

Looks like we'll have a day warm enough to work in. I've got some birds to move and a few things to do in the barn. I want to get the last of my breeding groups together today. In two weeks I'll have eggs that I won't have to guess at. The crosses usually turn out to be good layers (or fryers), so two weeks worth of crosses isn't a problem. Thanks to all sending comments and posting on the planning thread for NEOCS. It's coming together. I think by June we'll have an event that's fun, educational, and worth the drive to Muskogee. Keep your comments and ideas coming.

Morning All...it's nice and sunny here, looking forward to a great day.

Today will be our first auction of the New Year, it will be good to see everyone again. For those of you who like little furry faced peeps, were taking down several EE, pullets and cockerels, a pair of Ameraucana, and a dozen EE hatching eggs (There are few true Ameraucana eggs in there too). Know they're hatching, we have a brooder fof fuzz butts just hatched a couple days ago. Once I figure out the new way to post pics I'll show you the new babies.

We were planning on working on a Coronation project here at the farm...but have some other breeds that we're focusing on more...so will 3 Split Sussex there too. It would be a good project for somebody

Hope everyone has a great day...got to go get everyone fed and rounded up for the drive down!

Sooner and P&B...when and where will the beekeepers spring conference be located?
Have either of you attended the beekeepers meetings at OSU tech on Portland in OKC? Used to attend meetings there. Our last bee hive didn't make it thru the drought. Used to have 6 hives. We located ours in the pasture with a pen of cattle panels protecting them from the herd. Got great honey. Never used a bee suit...just tucked my pants bottoms into my socks and worre a long sleeve shirt. Did use a bee net over a safari hat. Bee smoker is essential to opening your hive.
Guy...loving the tip for the day!
MJ. I moving the chicks out to a growout pen in the barn and putting NNN back in the hen house this evening...she has started laying eggs again. This is in a proteced area and has its own heat source.

The conference is March 3rd in Ponca City, OK.

So far I have not attended any meetings, I will consider McAlester when I do.
