Robin, don't remember if you got an answer to your egg question. If you have a loose air cell in an egg, that means the egg received enough trauma to break it loose, but not completely scramble the contents. Those eggs may still have viable embryos. To hatch them, you need to set them upright instead of laying them down during the last few days of incubation.

If you have incubated longer than 14 days and it still candles clear, you need to toss it.

Good Luck!

PS: if you are getting these types of eggs from your own hens, you have an issue within the birds laying them. Could be an illness, vitamin absorption issue, improper feed, a fluke, etc...

Do you just cut it smooth off about half way between the end and where it meets the leg..

I try to cut it off smooth about where the inner spur ends to prevent bleeding. I do not own a dremmel tool like Ksane suggests, but as soon as I can afford one I may give it a try. It sounds simpler than the saw and stopping any bleeding sounds good too. Thanks for sharing Ksane.

I just used the search the thread feature, and have to say it is cool! Took me right to the post I was wanting the info from w/o having to scroll through hundreds of posts.

The wind caused most of my plans for working outside to not happen yesterday & today. DH did get the tire swing & bar hung. There was enough chain on them, that he was able to hang them outside the goat pen, only tool needed was a ladder. (so thankful, if not he would have fussed about me bringing home extra work). Kids love the new swing. I did get lots of tomatoes started yesterday. Guess I will work on peppers next.

Is there a way to save our favorite forums that we visit the most?

Hope no one blows away as the cold weather rolls in.

I totally hear you on more plans then money but my issue is also time. Just does not seem like enough time in the day to get things done. Over the years I have slowly acquired quite a few tools that make building an repairs easier. Like the colored socket sets I bought yesterday. Yes I sprang the extra two dollars to have pretty tools and I don't care because I am female and can do that.

Have you thought about using fence pipe to build the frames for your pens? Surprisingly they are a lot lighter to move around.

My husband got a bunch of 10' cedar 4x4's from his dad for free (he's got one of those portable sawmill things) so that's why I've used cedar posts for everything. I've still got 10 or 12 of them left. I don't know how I'd weld the pipe fences together but I bet it'd be funny to watch me try.
