I finished candling my first clutch of eggs. My roosters are still not active enough with the hens. Out of thirty eggs, I only had ten that show growth. I put the clear eggs into the live traps. Maybe they are still good for catching varmints.

Where about are you located?
I'm glad to hear so many of you have birds that won't roost. I haven't even put roosts up in the building that's split for the 7 Cochins yet, they still huddle down in the shavings, boys & girls are separated. The only Silkie I have that roosts (sometimes) is my white boy in with the Faverolles, the rest are all floor huddlers. I was a little concerned about the Faverolles pair I got at Newcastle because they won't roost at all. I thought maybe the 2' roost was too high, he's a pretty big boy & she goes where he goes. I tried several times putting him up on the roost and he acts scared to death. I just packed the building with extra shavings for him and decided not to worry about it. I sure feel better knowing there's so many other birds out there that prefer the floor.
