***OKIES in the BYC III ***

n, what i am thinking is incubator.... i don't have one... is there a good inexpensive one? yeah i am seriously thinking of those favorolle eggs

Robin, I got my styrofoam Little Giant with a turner for $75. The guy on Craigslist had bought it and never used it, it was still brand new. They're normally about $50 for the incubator itself and another $40 or $50 for the turner. But you have broodies! You don't need to spend the money on an incubator, hens do a much better job.

I got my Genesis 1588 with car power plug adaptor last year for around 180.00, with an egg turner...you could opt to not get the turner, but the incubator is idiot proof, the car adaptor did save the eggs a few times over the spring and during the blizzard...you can get it fro Cutler or GQF, and they carry the less expensive ones at Country Hatchery in Wewoka

NanaKat,
I have re-candled the eggs, here is your report.
Of teh Purchased Cochin: 3 of 18 are good
Of all teh others, I hope you have room.. all but 4 made it. You have a bunch of of little ones well on the way. Your hatch date is teh 27th.
OOOOO babies on the way.means my roosters are all on the ball. So sad about the bought eggs...

So I had the most amazing dinner tonight. I took pumpernickel bread, spread some seasoned ricotta cheese on it, then put slices on tomatoes on it and broiled it in the toaster oven. After that I spread avocado on it. Tres bien, tres bien!!!
That sounds good. Haven't eatten lunch yet.

Buster, Cowboy and Kass Great pictures.
Sooner ...gald to hear your hubby is home. Shoulder surgery is not comfortable....and rehab is challenging.

Guy's tip of the Day
It is just a tad cool out, ut for Jan. It is awesome. My tip for today is get up off our butts in front of this computor and get out and enjoy the weekend. For one day we will wake up and not be able to.

We decided to get serious with this chicken business this year.

My friends Grady and Erin are moving east to Virginia to take over one of Joel Salatin's rental farms and basically work as a subcontractor for him. So, they are selling all their stuff. I bought the below eggmobile. They were running 400 hens in it last year. It comes complete with egg boxes, feeders, and watering system supplied by two 50 gallon drums, that provides water both inside and out. It has slated floor so the poop falls through to the pasture below. You basically park it on pasture, open the doors in the morning, and close it up at night. You park it there until the birds have used the area to a moderate degree, then move to fresh pasture.

It is so cool. With this, we should be able to up our flock of layers significantly, and sell our eggs as 100% free range pastured poultry at the local farmers market.

Also bought 3 Salatin style broiler pens.

Poco besides the leather stuff and some chickens. I have made it a point to search out all garage sales, flea markets, junk stores etc for every piece of poultry related trinkets, dishes, what nots etc. Should have a pretty good selection time June comes around.

Your space is going to have a lot of traffic! When we get closer to event day, send me a list of your most impressive items and I will make sure they are on the directory. We don't want anyone to miss out on an opportunity to get a handcrafted leather item of a charming chicken curiosity. You may want to take a few photos of your finds as well. I think we can generate some interest if you post a few on the planning thread a little closer to event day.

I used to fill a few of them trailors in my youth if I am correct. Is that a refurbished cotton trailor. Pretty awesome, glad to hear you are going to expand.

Hey, Guy. Yeah, that's a beefed up cotton trailer. I have seen these done elsewhere, but it was going to take a lot of work, and I don't have nearly his expertise and ingenuity. He was a Salatin apprentice for a year, and you can see a lot of that kind of thinking in this thing. I'm excited about the whole deal. We pick it up next Saturday. I'll take pics of the inside details when we get it on the place.

And yeah, we decided it was time to either seriously expand, or quit. Grady sort of decided for us.

Love the pic of your pops with the game bird.

To all BYCers. I have alot of buyers for rabbits. Now is the time to sell if you need to cull out. Prices were very good at last sale. Breed does not seem to matter. The next sale at Blanchard is Jan28th.

It was good to see all of those who attended last sale.

Hope to see you all soon
