***OKIES in the BYC III ***

OMG, Tony, you're a genius lol! Why didn't I think of that???? That way the girls will still get a break because some days I can skip and not put a boy in there. The boys will get a change of scenery and get to make food noises for real girls instead of each other. My husband says they always look confused when they make the food noise and toss food to another chicken and then look up. He says they're thinking, "Dang! You're a dude!"

What a cool picture! Every time I see baby pictures I think how awesome it would be to have tiny baby chicks to cuddle and play with. Then I look out into the yard and realize it wouldn't ever end. They grow up and 3 months later I'm still without baby chicks to play with. I'll admire your baby pictures but just be thankful it's not me having to raise them & build pens for them, how's that?

That would be wonderful! You think of everything! Once they reach full grown size, it's not easy to tell who comes from which years hatch. I keep really good records on the cows and kept realloy close records on the lovebirds. Looks like I need to start a breeding notebook for the chickens.

Your Grandfather sounds like both of my Grandmothers. They were the Matriarchs of the family and neither was afraid to attempt any project with full gusto. They were wonderful mentors for their grandchildren.

Sage advice from both.

I get my love of flower gardening from my Grandma. She was always sewing , making jewelry, embroidery and ect. I like to do all of those things too. She had chickens before I was born. She put the shells in the scratch and said "Those shells went thru those chickens so many times". I get the Josephine in my name from her - Ethyl Josephine

Carl if your talking about your Grandfather that i knew ,we became freinds in the late fifties , and remained freinds until his passing,we worked at the same place. He was a very inteligent person ,also had common sense, and straight as an arrow. Never seen anything he couldnt fix, from heavy eqp.to a transistor radio.

I was named after my Gma too. She was Elizabeth Ann, and I got the Ann for a middle name and my sister got Elizabeth for a middle name.

That would be him Don, you knew him well, one outstanding man with more knowledge and skill than anyone I have ever met. He taught me a great deal and I am thankfull to have had the time with him I did.

I will speperate the next ones better then.. right now its all wyandotte and teh three purchased cochin eggs in one tray, and teh others cochin and cochin x in a second. I am using 4 hatching trays for mine, I will see if I can seperate them out better in teh morning so long as nothing is pipped yet, but if they start pipping what I have set up will have to work for now.

Not to attempt to hijack this thread, but I had heard that the price of hay is exorbitant in OK... tell me this isn't true... I live in Minnesota, and just can't believe that a bale of hay is so expensive... can someone shed some light on this?

As far as hay prices it is supply & demand. The heat & drought caused most people to get very small cuttings this yr & many here keep pastures stocked high so the pastures were burnt up & farmers began feeding hay earlier than usual.
