***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning Robin, only plans for me today is work & the feed store. When I get home I will make sure everyone is ready for the rain coming tonight.

My plans include securing my duck pens and candling my fist hatch of the season before lock down. At day ten I tossed more than half because so many were not fertile. I guess my roosters are slow starters. I'll find out this evening how many kept growing. I have my brooders ready, so it's just a matter of getting the little guys though the next few days. I'm going to start on some drawings for my beehive.

Sooner - I've decided to paint a fantasy garden on my beehive. I'm going to paint a garden first and then give the plants, flowers, and leaves interesting faces. My mom has ceramic faces on some of her bigger trees, which is where the idea for my beehive is coming from. I'm going to work on four drawings, one for each side of the hive, and then I'll post them and get some feedback. I want my hive boxes to be completely different from those in my beekeeping class. I think this will do it. I want to incorporate my beehive into my garden, so it will act as a house and as a focal point.

Good morning everyone. I really like the idea of bees. I had thought about getting some a while back, but decided that I had too much going on in my life.

Lauren starts selling Girl Scout Cookies today, so that's gonna be fun.

I still have my OEGB for sale. I've had a few people that want them, but they want me to deliver to OKC. I only go that way a couple of times a year and don't wanna make that trip just to deliver birds. I don't usually have time. Maybe to buy birds........

We are supposed to be getting a mini pony delivered sometime this week. She's a red and white paint and will serve as a companion to Lauren's horse. We are thinking that having the older mare will help calm Coconut down some and keep her from trying to get out to see the neighbor's horse.

I am desperately wanting to get a couple on Nubian goats, but I'm not sure if I wanna take that step just yet. I think they are so cute and would be fun to have. I need to get a proper fence around the property first and quit my job so that I have time to deal with everything else that I want. Haha

Jordan returns to school today to finish out this year. He will be homeschooled next year. We found an online course that will simplify our life.

As far as hay prices it is supply & demand. The heat & drought caused most people to get very small cuttings this yr & many here keep pastures stocked high so the pastures were burnt up & farmers began feeding hay earlier than usual.

thank you for the insight

Thank you for looking after him. What kind of chick feed do you feed? I need to pay for his room and board when I pick him up.

I've been using med chick started...but he doesn't eat enough for you to worry about compenstion. Besides, it has been fun watching him grow.

Not to attempt to hijack this thread, but I had heard that the price of hay is exorbitant in OK... tell me this isn't true... I live in Minnesota, and just can't believe that a bale of hay is so expensive... can someone shed some light on this?

Hay is high. We have seen it go for $140 for a 5 x 6 bale at auction. Trucking in hay from out of state is really high..$.3.50 a loaded mile on top of the price of the hay. There is little hay to buy now in the central part of the state. Many of the cattle folks sold down their herds in order to make it to Spring. If we don't get significant rain this Spring, we will sell more cattle.

I will speperate the next ones better then.. right now its all wyandotte and teh three purchased cochin eggs in one tray, and teh others cochin and cochin x in a second. I am using 4 hatching trays for mine, I will see if I can seperate them out better in teh morning so long as nothing is pipped yet, but if they start pipping what I have set up will have to work for now.

Didn't you set these eggs on Jan 7th. I'm pleased with what ever you choose to do.

The strawberry custard was a waste of a pkt of strawberries. It wasn't inedible, but it wasn't good either. The combo of the yolk color and strawberries made un unappatizing weird color, and it didn't have a definate strawberry flavor which was very suprising b/c I used fresh strawberries that tasted amazing raw.

Hope it heals fast OUCH!

I just got head butted by my lab / rot dog, it was an accident now my head is pounding, and a put a nail through the tip of my finger and it is throbbing.
