***OKIES in the BYC III ***

upcdayz, I hope you feel better. I get a headache about every 2 yrs and I've had one now for like a week. So I wonder if there's some low-grade flu thing going around or something.
Robin, I'm reading about the roaches and they need like 90 degrees to breed. They can't fly, jump or climb so they don't escape even without a cover. Even if they do they wouldn't be able to breed in a house because it isn't warm enough for them. They're actually kind of cool and I'm really kicking myself for not paying enough attention all this time when Kass was talking about them.

Here's one of the pet quality OEGB I got from Jarvis's, does anyone know what color she is? Maybe Carl will hop on and let me know. She's just a little darling, chatters non-stop at me and is 1/2 the size of my Serama boy.

If I had to guess, I'd say that my headache is from stress. I'm trying to de-funkify around here to get my house ready to sell. It's a drag, for sure.

Your bird is very pretty. I have a Serama hen that is similarly colored. She's one of my favorites.

There are alot of "bugs' going around. The kids at school (and teachers) are coming down with fevers, sniffles and more in record numbers. Course the construction dust and ect. isn't helping

MJ - I love those cochins in your profile pic. One of these days I'm going to talk you into letting go of a couple of them.

By Fall I will have some after I see how this Spring's chicks look. I have 8 hens and pullets to work with thisseason. I really love the Mille Fleur colors, all those flashy feathers. The white tips on the ends of the roo's hackle and saddle feathers are so neat. Some even have white tips on the end of their black tail feathers.

Just found out if DD wins basketball game tomorrow she has a game on Saturday, guessing chances of making the auction are slimmer than I thought. Tomorrow I will be getting PTO stuff together @ school & Friday & Saturday I am helping my sister get the last of her stuff moved, feel like I have been busy all month. But I can't think of anything important I have done.
I am excited to know I will be hatching the maran eggs next weekend. I plan on babying this batch. They will stay inside as long as I can handle it. Once the box starts needing cleaned twice daily my OCD takes over & they have to move to a brooder in the chicken shed.

I am new to the board but love reading all about the "Okie birds". I have a questions, where is the best place to buy your young birds? We have bought guineas from the swap meet and from a man in Dale, then got our original 10 birds from a friend in trade for some labor she needed done. Our last pullets we bought from someone on craigslist (ended up being someone we knew). But I want a few young roosters and a few barred rock pullets but not sure where to buy from. We have gotten so blessed by getting healthy birds so far I want to keep it that way.

Thanks,
Cathie

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Where are you located? There are several folks on here who enjoy "enabling" others in the acquisition of a poultry addiction, as in "the uncontrollable urge to acquire poultry, hatch eggs, and attend poultry auctions." Are you looking for a particular kind of rooster or do you want the roosters to be of the same variety as your pullets?
