***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Has anyone ever found a collection of audio files for the different vocalizations of chickens? I had a stressful moment yesterday when my blue Andalusian roo (from LynninOK) called an alarm. It sounded like he was being squeezed then released, squeezed and released. When I reached the pen, he was fine, but he had his head cocked sideways and was pacing. I looked up and saw two carrion birds, the big ugly shoulder shoppers that look like vultures, flying over the barn. As soon as they were gone, he was back to normal. I'd never heard such a soulful, anxious sound from a rooster before. He and his lady bird have not blessed us with any eggs yet. I hope to be able to set eggs from them by the end of February. They have become quite a nice looking pair.

Poco here is what i have been getting from the pullets i got from you

Those are beautiful eggs! I'm getting 2 a day from four hens, so I don't know if I have two laying and two not, or if I have every-other-day layers all the way around. I'm pleased with the darkness of the eggs. My hens are really active foragers, but my roosters are lazy and only seem to eat from the feeders.

Thanks for the welcome, we live just north of Harrah but we attend church south of Choctaw so are that direction once a week. I work in Shawnee so there 3 days a week and one day a week I work around the 240/Western area. We are looking for barred rock pullets (3), then one australorp roo, one buff orphington roo.

Another question, what does everyone feed their chickens and guineas? I feed mine table scraps and the guineas free range all day, then we leave a mix of fancy scratch and egg layer pellets avail all day for the chickens and the guineas get a mix left for them when they come in at night. I just want to make sure I am not over feeding or not feeding them the right things. My hens are picky about what they eat they love leftover oatmeal but don't care for cream of wheat, lol.
