***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ksane that is a pearl guinea. Will your guineas come with treats? I shake a container of scratch & most of mine will follow me anywhere. But then again it is those 1 or 2 that seem to cause the most problems!
I had to open my hatcher & take out the wicking sponges. The humidity was almost @ 80 since it rained!

It may actually be a royal purple. Hard to tell without the whole body shot. If it has pearl dots and bars ALL OVER, it is a pearl. If only about half or so pearled, it is a royal purple. From just this shot, it looks like a royal purple, as the neck and part of its front are so dark--but may be just the light.

On the Oaks brooders. Back when we lived in the panhandle and raised quail. I had 3 of these and had them all full for about 2 years straight. If you want to raise numbers, they are a good way to go. After 2 years of that many quail though. I dont think I ever want to work that hard again. Was like haveing two full time jobs only the quail required more time than the real full time one. And forget about someone to take care of them if you ever wanted to leave the house. Ah good times.

I really like teh lay out of the Oaks Brooders, and often have a need for all 5 tiers and the space saving would be great, my problem was positioning so to get the front and back trays out and use the space I have best.
I am now deciding how to best re-arrange what I have and get my garage back as well as expand the conditioning pens. I am seriously thinking of building shelves in the brooder building, some what staking 6 brooders and covering either the 10 ft wall or 16 ft wall with 2x2x2 1/2 pens. I know I could get 12 pens maybe 15 on the 10ft wall but could get 18-21 on teh other wall and still have space for the brooders and cages for early grow out. Getting rid of the extra brooders was the first step, so than you to those that helped with that. Now I have to start thinking harder.
I just can't decide if I want to move the inc. and Hatcher to the garage or leave them where they are in the house. right now they have thier own room 12x16 with heated sorting tables and egg storage fridge set to 65 its a lot to move and my Inc. has to go out the door in the truck and around the house not as easy it would look although they are right next to the garage, guess I could always just knock out a wall for a day.

hi folks! Hey wayne, love those quilts... gonna have to do raffle tickets!
here is my lone silkie chick from the hatch last month, spent the evening holding her- mama is trying to wean her, and she was yelling her head off- anyone have a bantam close to her age that she can have for a buddy?
Aaawww she's adorable. I just put the 4 mo old OEGB in with my Silkie girls because the other OEGB beat her up. I was starting to get concerned about her not being accepted by anyone and having her own group. The Silkies took her right in though, she hides under them to sleep and when she's scared. I hope you find her a buddy, I hate to see them without another one of their kind. (Well unless it's my spoiled Serama, but he has me).

I used to service a truck for a lady up in Garden City Ks. and she told me the story of her mom and dad after they got married. Seems that dad was Irish and mom was full blood Cherokee. They got married on Sat afternoon and Sat. evening dad went out drinking with his friends and would come in early Sun morning lit up like a big city.
This went on for a few weeks till she got tired of it and she layed in wait for the time he got home and layed him out with a 9" cast iron skillet. Dad didn't wake up till around noon on Sunday but he never did go out drinking with the boys again!!
And that was just how it was told to me.

Aaahhh. Childhood memories.

They have spots all over. But my color was royal purple after chasing the screaming banshees around the other night trying to catch them.

If I'm hurting bad enough I'd better get a needle, pills take way too long!

What is funny is that I don't mind getting stuck at all but I do not like to give shots to the critters.

Men confuse me, they can be on my gurny w/ a bone fx saying I'll be okay I just need to walk it off, then I take out a small needle to start an IV and they start having fits like I'm about to kill them, or start crying.

That's funny but, Not the same for me I can watch them chase the vein till I offer to do it myself (they never let me though, I think it's cause they get a misguided sense of accomplishment when they figure out how to hit a moving target) I have no doubts I could do it a lot faster than some of the ones whose job it is to draw the blood, I've watched a couple of minor surgeries I've had just never have been squeamish about that sort of thing, I have more problems when it's someone else hurt than if it's me LOL

Well Kass and Ksane I just couldn't stand it you both put me over the edge (not that it really took a lot LOL) I have ordered and am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my new colony of invertebrates well two of them actually I talked to the guy that you got the hissers from he is really helpful and made me a great deal on quite a few and I used the link that Kass posted on her thread, I have raised the Hissers before but the Dubia should be interesting to have.

I ordered a hand crank mill that makes flour (I will be adding a motor soon!) set it up and it worked the heck out of me in a hurry LOL I t does however do a great job so I can make a lot more substrate for the mealworms, I'd let my numbers get kind of low for a while but this will make it a lot easier to keep them in food, I was looking into the feed for the insects that I have coming and I would imagine that they will eat the same thing I use for the worms so if anyone might need something ground for feeding them I can help out Well, after the motor is installed that is LOL

I'm so glad you're getting them! The more I read the more impressed I was. And I got the Hissers for the same reason you did-just because I LIKE them! The Dubia are going to be the main ones for feeding the birds and fish since they'll multiply faster. You know there's actually a roach forum? lol Where they diligently breed all kinds of species of roaches?? They're probably laughing at all the people who breed chickens though.
