***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Isn't it funny how rummors get started? See I heard there is this guy over this way that likes to be spanked & poked with needles!

Can you believe it??????????

I have been good just been super busy with the kids and ksane those did come from our auction they used to be my finances but she is slowly thinning out her birds

My Serama chicks are 4 weeks old today! They're feathering in nicely and getting bigger. The mama, who I've finally named Bunny, has decided she's fed up with her chicks. She no longer calls them to food she's found and has started pecking at them. Today I caught her flinging them around with her beak, so she's no longer in the same area and is now back with her boyfriend, Sidewinder. The chicks have been calling for her, but they'll get along fine on their own now. What drama!

Good to hear, we have been busy as can be ourselves. I assume you will be at the Great Plains show later this month?

Thanks Nana, I will diffanatly take some pictures. I bought a large 5 level brooder last year. 31" wide by about 4 foot long. I had thought about maybe getting one about the size of the one Carl was parting with. I am glad I drug my feet as I will probable be needing all the brooder space I have with this kind of fertility. I had a friend out west of me put 50 in his GQF that will hatch this coming week. I should have lots of young fowl to go through this year.
How does your 5 level brooder come apart for cleaning? Does each level have it's own droppings tray? Will you dismantle it to set up on tables or individual racks so you won't have to lift such a heavy tray? Sounds like Carl in enabling you to have more babies!

Lucie was doing that wit her three also. First time moms are not as patient as the older broodies.

Evening,

We got a good soaking today. I know the grass, trees, and ducks are happy, but the chickens and goats are grumpy.

I've got my third beekeeping class tomorrow, and then in the evening we're going to a wedding at the cathedral.

Beautiful quilts! I wish I had the patience to make one.

I think Guy has an Oaks 5 tier brooder, they are actually very nice built in larger than the brooders than I use we looked at one but it needed a lot of work and the guy that had thought it was gold plated or something.
The frame is all one piece and the brooders are built in the stack they are not un-stackable. the only thing you run into which can be good or bad, heat rises so you have to set temp on the bottom brooder then work your way up, once all are running reset the bottom to the lowest temp so a 5 week old you need temp at 75, second teir 80, third tier 85, fourth tier 90, then top at 95. You have to move the chicks each week to the right temp to keep wings from over growing.
they are nice units, large, good heating systems, feed and water on teh outside mae a world of sense on thise because clearance space is very limited to get wateres in and out.
The Oaks have two poop trays one front one rear same for wire bottoms. partially enclosed rear heated section with a canvas curtian and open front "run" area.
