***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Bill, you're so interesting. You remind me of a male version of me except funny lol
The 1st thing I do when I fall on my backside now is make sure no one saw me. Thankfully people are pretty polite about middle aged people falling down and they always pretend they didn't see :-D I don't know where you get the energy to find all the cool stuff you find. It makes me anxious for spring so I can go huntin' cool stuff, too!
Joe, I didn't realize OEGB boys could live together even if they grew up together. I've got a Silkie bachelor pen (7) and an LF Cochin bachelor pen (3) who do fine together but I guess I assumed that was because they're pretty easy going breeds. OEGB's just don't seem as tolerant but I don't have enough to make an educated guess. No, I wouldn't toss adult unrelated males together lol That's just asking for trouble.

Falling seems to come more frequent with age. Bruises last longer now too.

We are on our way home from winterjam concert. It was insane. The crowd & parking was the worse I have seen it. Thankfully it is only once a yr.

Did I miss anything good @ the auction?

Well been back from the auction for a while but decided to watch Zombieland. I love that movie. Rule #32 Enjoy the little Things and Rule #2 Double Tap!

It was really a nice night at the auction. Scored a big beautiful pair of LF black cochins. Of course this means, once again a revamp of the genetic charts. Holy cow it makes my ears bleed trying to get this chart figured out. Just so everyone knows I am going to set up two pure breed pens. One for LF cochins and the other for ameraucanas. These offspring are going to be for sale to hopefully off set the feed bill for the summer and maybe into the fall as well. Also, I will be selling the culls from my breeding program as well. Sorry there is no way I can kill the chicks, just isn't going to happen, folks.

Think I am going to head to bed. Hope everyone has a good "morning" as it is after midnight.

It sounds like you have a plan in the works. I'm excited to see how your Americochin project progresses. I'm with you on not being able to kill the chicks either.

I think selling healthy chicken culls is a good thing. I do understand not selling them if you are a serious breeder that breeds to improve show lines. Someone who is into showing would be hurting theirselves when they offered up birds of any kind to others.
With my seedlings I feed the culls to my birds-- they are very happy with the seeds that don't grow as fast or as strong.
Ksane I just wanted to mentioned I think you are showing GREAT self control in sticking to one type of chicken! I told DDs they could each pick one kind of bird to focus on, but then that didn't leave any birds for my sisters kids (who usually stay here every weekend since she has work). So bird types multiplied slowly.
However-- the EE can come in so many colors & patterns that they seem to be the preferred bird of DD.

morning okies, I was just about to head out the door yesterday evening to head to newcastle when the oncall phone rang. The auction would have been a lot more fun than spending the evening trying to unclog a sewerline. I hope I didn't miss something I couldn"t live without.

I'm another who cannot kill healthy chicks, nor can I keep all the good ones. I'm not interested in shipping and don't want to travel far to sell my birds except POOPS, Shawnee and Pryor shows and now NEO Chickenstock. I bring birds from pet quality to show quality to sell at these events. I price my birds according to what I think I can get in each venue, which is usually far less than if I were to ship them. I'm careful to tell each buyer what quality the birds are, and that the show quality birds I'm sellling are not my TOP SQ birds, but will show well in smaller shows. I DO know that this hurts my sales some, as I'm putting quite good quality birds out there fairly close to me, and those owners then become competition. I'm not a really serious shower or seller, though, and I like the knowledge that buying good birds from me at reasonable prices encourages new chicken people to go on to bigger, better things--especially the youngsters. I've also brought some pertty good, showable birds to the Guy Rose auction when I'm too overloaded.

Good morning okie friends :)
So how was the auction? I want to hear about all the good stuff I missed so I will have better chances of getting to the next one! How did mjs Cochins do?
Hey Mitzi! Gosh it is soooo hard to catch up on this thread! I need to set aside more time in my days for "chicken chat" as my dbf calls it lol
Any pms that I haven't gotten back to I'm sorry. My devices don't like the setup but I will get back to ya!
I still have a chicken "shelter" I'm selling. Not real great for winter but could be adjusted. About 4x6 ground area, aframe type, tin sheltered part
Well back to the daily activities! Have a good day everyone, it's beautiful out

Yeah, but this way you made money instead of spending it.

i did hear from a friend who is not on BYC that he got $10 for a carton of 18 gamebird eggs,

Rebecca, I'm totally shocked you bought cochins. LOL

I'm still waiting to hear what else was sold or bought.

making money working on a sewer line is no where as fun as spending money on chickens
