Morning everyone! Hope everyone gets lots of time outdoors today to enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts. I wish I was home today so I could rake out coops and help hubby finish up the last of the chicken condos.
Does anyone know how long you can sex barred rock chicks using the spot on the back of their head? Or does that not really work? We have barred rock chicks we got Sat. and if using the spot method works I have mostly females but I am not going to bank on that. I also made a HUGE mistake with this batch of chicks, I named one! I have yet to name any of our chickens and now I done gone and named one Walt. He is such a funny little guy pushing everyone else away from the feed dish at feeding time. He also pecks at my hand when I go to move anything in the brooder. Last night he rushed my hand and then skittered away like he was trying to pick a fight, lol. So much more interetaining than any of the other chicks we have had.
Cathie
You will often find teh young males to be that way in the brooders, they are very inquisitive for some reason. We have friend who has that experience in general with the Barred, they are his most curious birds and the ones he losses most to predators (snakes etc) when young due to thier need to investigate new things.
