***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ah, TY, Les. It's been rough, but I think everything is on the upswing now.

Pretty much lost all TV after the digital switch. Still get patchy stuff out of Tulsa, but I can't stand to watch. 30sec on-2 min off- 4min on-1 off-etc So the storm was a surprise.

There is a do-dad called Weatherbug that can be put on the computer. It will keep you up to date on watches and warnings plus has lots of neat features like radar. Best part it's free.

Came across this today
And they aren't even Naked Necks!

On a poultry note.....
When should I expect my turkey to start laying eggs. She hatched last summer. My Tom has started mounting her this week. I figure that she should be getting there soon.

I expect my turkey hens to begin laying before April 1 - but not a long time before April 1.

I have weather again!!!! TY!!!!!

Anyone have thoughts on roof for chain link kennel? I finally got some of the panels bought and used one over the top as well, now need to give some weather cover. There is a small tree growing in the middle I think the birds will like, so I thought about 2 of the 6'x4' metal panels on either side and 4'x6' feet left open in the middle. Then maybe a few holes in the panels and wire to the kennel panel?

Cowboy - So sorry for the loss of your dad. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Busy day today. After all the running around this afternoon I fell asleep at the computer for a couple of hours. Looks like it'll be a late night for me now. My sleep schedule gets really messed up when I do that.

Didn't get much rain here at all. Just a little bit early in the morning and that was it. The line of storms that blew through the state missed me.

All the newest chickies are growing and getting little wing feathers. The ones that hatched in early January are at that gangly looking stage where they look kind of messy - lots of feathers with some of fuzz still left. They're a friendly bunch that comes running up to me when they see me. I love that.

I use compost when I first put them in the ground. When they are about 6" tall, I fertilize with blood meal. I fertilize once more when they are about a foot tall. Do not add fertilizer within 30 days of harvesting your onions. You don't want to alter their flavor

I think you can use ammonium sulfate, but I don't know anything about how to apply it. Blood meal comes in powder form. You can mix it with water and apply it like fertilizer tea. There are instructions on the package. I think two pounds will cost about five dollars. I've heard about using soybean meal, but I don't know where one would buy it.

Thanks so much. I knew you would know! Best to go first to the experts...saves a lot of messing up. I remember there was discussion about planting potatoes in 5 gallon buckets...Do you put a hole in the bottom and then plant the bucket in the garden? Think I'll do that next....Guess winter isn't going to happen?

NNBreeder, that sounds like a wonderful cause.
Cathie, here's my favorite picture of our Cuckoo Marans boy when he was a week old. He was always so big and personable. I'm wondering if all Marans are such nice tempered birds. Maybe that's why people like them so well.

awe he is a cutie! We don't have pictures of ours at that age. A friend needed her preasure tank replaced so dh went over to do it for her. She wouldn't take "no" for an anwere when he said no charge. So she paid him in chickens. That was in June of last year. He told her we couldn't take any chickens until after our fireworks season so she kept them for us. They were 7-8 weeks old when they came home. (past the ugly stage lol).
