***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Wow what a beautiful day it was here in eastern Okla! Got to visit with my daughter and go by our retirement farm. Heading to the town of Allen tomorrow.
We were all talking about how windy it was ! None of us remember it blowing like this when we lived here.guess it's climate change thing. I read once years back that Okla would eventually turn into a more desert area like further out west. Looks like it may happen.

mefordz - frito bandito..... have you read skippy john jones? :p
I love Skippy Jon Jones books. It was funny you asked that question because I was thinking the same thing when I saw Jim's post.

For the past year I had asked DH to buy me a stethoscope so I can listen to my eggs. Imagine I will need to buy it myself, since he thinks the idea is 100% crazy!

You can get one at any medical supply store for really cheap. Like under $15 cheap.

Teva has her own compact tractor as do I. She does a lot of work with it too as we have many impliments for them. I am also currently working on an 800 Ford select-o-speed for her. It's like an automatic that shifts with a lever.

Tractors are made with a low center of gravity which makes them harder to tip then say a 4-wheeler or even a 4x4 truck. The tractor specifications will give a safe limit when working on grades that is usually measured in degrees.

When I worked in Enid often times the boss' pre-teen daughters would operate the 4wds pulling equipment up to 60 feet wide. So no, don't let the thought of operating a tractor intimidate you.

As far as being rough the compacts are pretty rough, especially when digging post holes and dragging a brush cutter over rough ground. To ease the bouncing get wider then standard tires and run them just a tad low so they absorb most of the shock.

I want a tractor!!!!

I so want a tractor too!

To all you warm weather folks: Snow is beautiful!, 110* is not.I have gotten somewhat used to the heat. In Michigan, 85* is not a nice day. Although I was in the Mississippi Delta one May and the heat and humidity was truly unbearable for me. Now I know why half my husband's family is 'Not rowing with both oars in the water".

Looks like a chicken egg with a sunburn. lol
Hey, you guys I got a really super dark brown egg with spots on it today, it's about the size of an OEGB egg. Is that what Guinea eggs look like? There's only the big laying hens and the Guinea that go in that coop.
Edit: Here's the egg. Maybe it's just an oddball sexlink egg.

Rebecca,
Your little Calico is still broody after I took the chicks from her so I put 6 more eggs from other Mille Fleurs under her. I wish I could have let her brood the chicks herself but she decided to nest in an upper level box.

How easy is it to move a setting hen and eggs?

We are so blessed to have angels among us here on this thread. There have been so many to help answer my dumb newbie questions time and time again. Tonight I have to give a shout out to Carl. We had a rooster come down sick. I didn't know anyone else for hubby to call (I was still at work). Carl knew pretty much what we were dealing with and how to treat the rooster. He could have simply said "I don't know" or "it is "XYZ" and left it at that. But instead he walked dh through how to treat the rooster. Carl you are tops!

Snow is beautiful. Fall colors are also. It's less windy where I'm from (Michigan) so the winters don't seem as bad as here. I also lived in NY for 5 years. You get used to the snow and fall makes everything worth it. Oklahoma is home now and I love the people, but I get sad in the fall.
