***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Mefordz is here LOL now

Lets say i am now DEEP in the modern game

Aren't you guys funny! Mezford was his self yesterday & was proud to announce that only two of the juniors were shorter than me! Good thing I like being short! You will have to come up with new material

Kenny you did a great job! Thanks for setting it up & helping out your local 4H, I wish there were more folks like you!!!

Of you guys that were there did anyone buy & take home stuff??? If so what?

Those are great pics!

I'm jealous of the tractor, how did you find it? I've just been lurking craigslist and another site like it, but for farm stuffs.

I need some ideas. After buying supplies yesterday to fix our wellhouse it's making me rethink my coop plans. Building supplies are a lot more expensive than they were 5 years ago. I did notice the metal sheds at Lowe's, it would be cheaper to get the cheapest of them and it would be bigger than what I was planning on building. Anyone ever converted one of these for a coop? The only concern I have is the thin metal wouldn't be much for keeping the warmth in during winter. Do you think a heat lamp or two would be enough to keep a 8x10 thin sheetmetal shed warm enough in the winter?

I use an 8' x 10' metal storage building for a coop. I have done some modifications to it. I have a pop-door on the side for them to go in and out of. Also there is a panel on the side I have so I can take it off in the summer for airflow, there is chicken wire over the opening to keep everyone safe. I am planning on installing a window or two to give better lighting. I have it anchored down, so it will not blow away. I also have installed support straps inside so if anything (like big tree limbs) falls on it the roof will not collapse.
The nice thing about these is they are easy to clean, modify and can be moved around fairly easy. They are also cheap for the footage.

Allow me to be a little biased- COCHINS RULE!

I totally agree!!!! Cochins are the BOMB!!!!

aw man, now I really am jealous! Hubby was looking online this morning, "Hey honey come look at this one!" "Seen it, someone on BYC already bought it." HAHAHAHA

If you don't mind used there are several Gov. auction sites that have both tractors and impliments.

At this time no tractors, but a nice, nearly new house in Newcastle, starting bid $2,500

Our state auction site plus in the left sidebar links to the live auction in OKC for vehicles and equipment

Mostly military surplus but they often have tractors and other equipment. Plus often times at Ft. Sill there are little buildings and containers that could be rebuilt into coops. The mosquito netting and the half-shelter tents make wonderful shade cloths.

There is a sweet Farmall Cub on Govdeals but it is in Ct. There are other tractors closer though. And Bill you can buy a cheap beater truck for your dogs to drive too!

Really enjoyed the Pryor show yesterday, and had some time to actually VISIT with several of the BYC people, as well as silkie friends. Great to meet several new friends also. Ken did his usual good job with everything and stayed calm and collected even in the face of all the details and pesky people (me included) he has to deal with. Thought the judge did a really good job, plus he was friendly and helpful. I loved the way the show was set up this year! silkies and show cages were right inside the same door, so I could place my chair and had to walk only a few feet to both! My knee replacements are doing well but still painful, so that helped me hugely! Not having to walk back and forth so much gave me much more time to visit. I'm so slow moving, being old and decrepit, but was determined not to be the last one out this year. Almost messed that up anyway--there's always a last minute check to see if I've left anything and to say the last goodbyes!

I don't think warmth in the winter would be nearly as big a problem as cooking them in the summer.

Hadn't thought much of that, they've got a run about hm... 50x15? ish probably longer than that, I haven't measured it. So I wasn't really thinking of them being in it during the summer.

Good idea about the panel. What did you use for the floor on yours?

oooo thanks :) I'm about to head out the door, but this will give me an excuse to not work on the house or shed tonight!

I have 5 tiny Atwoods bantams brooding in my bathroom right now. Went there yesterday and hubby wouldn't let me look at them until i swore not to buy any.
Orshlen's has got cornish cross chicks if anyone is looking for them, Atwoods has the best price on turkey poults, about $1.50 less each for them than Orshlen's or Tractor supply. But Atwoods had the tinest banty chicks that I have ever seen, they were about the size of quail chicks. Atwoods prices were also better on goslings, guine keets and ducks.
For some reason DH told me I did not need to go back to any of those stores for a while,................. can't imagine why. He just smiles and shakes his head at me and my projects.

yup- our spare bathroom always has either broodies, sickies or chicklets...

our main coop is a ten x ten shed,, a pop door, 2 windows, and summer is an issue, i move the nest boxes out so its a bit cooler for them to lay outside- the heat is an issue with it

I'm worried about the heat in the chicken sauna this summer. It has air vents and I keep the door open during the day. We will see what happens I guess.
