***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I could be wrong but if it happened at night it wasn't a hawk. How big is your pin? When you say picked clean, that sounds more like a possom or something.

Before you give up, make your pen as strong as possible, this will make it less likely to loose birds.

No it was definitely this morning. I let them out at 7:30am and they were fine. Good news though I found the other two! They were hiding under the coop. Unfortunately it was my sons favorite that died, but he took it in stride and just named the other Buff Fatty. I told him she missed Lisa so much that we gave her back so she wouldn't be sad. I know I should let him face reality, but he is still sad about Snake the chick that didn't grow much and died in his cage. The remaining two chicks are all locked up in the smaller coop.

How early this morning??? Any chance you could of had a dog or other critter. I don't see a hawk picking the bird clean.

Hello everyone!!!

Okay so I have volunteered to keep track of the POOPS wish list and have to offer lists. For those of you who do not know what that is, it is a list of birds (chickens, eggs, chicks, turkeys, etc.) people are looking for or have to offer. This way we can connect those who have with those who want to have.

At this time I ask that we keep it to birds and eggs. I am afraid my brains will ooze out my ears otherwise. Sorry!

This is how this works; send me a PM of what birds you want or have, like the list of people who are attending POOPS, I will post an updated list daily or a couple of times (if I can) with the name of the person and what they are looking for or have to bring. Then if someone has something that another person has on the list they can either contact me or the person directly and let them know what they have.

Here is what I need from anyone who has something on the wish list. If and when you have made a deal/agreement with someone for the birds you want or have, please, please, please let me know so I can annotate it on the list. This way we do not have confusion of someone bringing birds that are not wanted or thinking there will be birds that there will not be brought.

Surprisingly that has happened.

If you have birds to sell and want me to post the prices, if you are willing to trade or if the price is negotiable, I will. All requests needs to be sent to me in a PM not on the thread.
Thanks
Rebecca

PS, I am so darn excited about POOPS!!! How about you????

POCO did you have to attend the tree class in order to get your tree's???

If you don't have experience planting trees, they ask you to watch a video at another location. I've got lots of planting experience, so the guy in charge just asked me a bunch of questions about the trees I was getting. He was satisfied that I understood the acidic soil requirements, planting depth, watering required at time of planting, and appropriate sites (windy, not windy, full sun, partial shade, etc.) Actually, the helpers standing around looked puzzled. The young lady doing community service who loaded my trees asked what nursery I worked at. I was tickled.

Take a look at the calendar on the Up With Trees website for the next time trees are available. They need you to bring the application, completely filled out and signed, with cash or a check. They're in an open field, so they can't take your credit card on site.

I got some Tulip Poplar, Blackgum (black Tupelo), and Cleveland Select Pear trees. All of them are bee friendly. I sure wish we could grow Sweetgum (light Tupelo) here. It would make great honey.

Coral thanks for the tree info, wish I was closer. I picked up a book at goodwill the other day that would be useful for someone with milk goats. It is the book of yogurt. All the recipes use yogurt, some interesting stuff in the book, was published in the late 70's.
Anyone ever gotten seedlings from the forestry? They are having a seedling sale in Chickasha on the 15th, was considering picking a few things up. Nothing major but at the cheap prices if I spend $20 & the seedlings don't thrive it won't be heart breaking.

We are suppose to start laying our plastic mulch in an hour or 2. Should make for a fun time, the wind is still kicking & suppose to stay strong all day. When I step onto the front porch the wind about knocks me off if my jacket isn't zipped closed!

Can I borrow your book????? I'll send it back to you. I promise!

Has anyone on here ordered chicks from Myers hatchery in PA. Was shopping around for a good pasture broiler and they seem to be priced below most others I looked at, and have several good looking varities.

When we did broilers a few years ago I got mine here http://www.centralhatchery.com/ all arrived in wonderful condition and would have had 100% survival had we butchered them all on schedule, but we got behind and in the last week we lost two. I only did 25 and it cost me 1.17 per chick including shipping. Looks like their prices haven't changed much. 100 should end up costing $1 flat including shipping. I will definitely use this hatchery again. Very happy with them. I think we are zone 3 or 4 if I remember right. You do have to call them to order and send them a check, but it's well worth the savings IMO.
