***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hope she feels better soon.
Late yesterday afternoon I noticed that Bunny, my silkied Serama hen, was acting funny - isolating herself, crouching and just not acting like herself. I didn't think too much of it until about 2:30 this morning. I woke up in a panic remembering that she hadn't laid an egg today. I went to check on her and found her away from all the other birds, sitting on some straw. I think she was trying to lay an egg today and it's now stuck. I immediately put her in a warm, 30 minute bath, blow dried her and put some vaseline in and around her vent. I can feel an egg in there. Now she's in the living room, in a box with a heating pad in it, with towels over the heating pad. Water and food (with oyster shell) is in there with her. I hope she passes the egg. She's got to be hurting. She keeps contracting like she's trying to pass it, but so far no egg. Will check her in the morning.

Have many of you here raised Dark Brahma chicks? My 5 are just 4 days old now and they're so calm. They just hang there in your hand staring at you when you pick them up, they're awesome. They're not sick, as soon as you put them down with their buddies they run all over the place eating and playing.
I love this calmness. Is it a Dark Brahma thing? Are Buff and Light Brahmas calm, too?
Oh, and MJ-I'm so sorry about your hen. I don't trust any of my dogs for a split second.

you got it mitzi, brahma's, cochins, orpingtons, langshans, giants, about all the large breed birds are usually very calm and collected. a lot of the bantam s in the same breeds are also calm.

of course there are exceptions to every rule, i had a pen full of bantam cochins that were just plain crazy! i think they may have had some guinnie ancestors or something. these birds were bouncing off the wire or pounding on your leg from day one.

Jackson's little pair of brahma banty cochins are pretty laid back. We have only had them for 2 weeks but they let him hold them and play with them in their coop. Now the roo wasn't thrilled to be the new pet to a 7 year old in the first few days. Jackson got bit a few times by him but Jack just kept on holding him and petting him and he has learned that 7 year old owner has treats, lol.

LOL on the guineas, I love my guineas but they are not exactly smart and during breeding season I am learning they loose any smarts they had to begin with.

add a tums to the water- extra calcium helps them relax and push it out...

Well. I walked in the barn and had a big surprise this morning! Never knew my Pumpkin was ready to kid thought it would be a few more days. And now we have the cutest baby doeling running around.

I have generic multi-symptom Rolaids. In addition to calcium carbonate, it has simethicone and magnesium hydroxide in it. Would this be OK to add to her water? Or should I just go get some regular Tums?

Just adorable, I would love to have some dwarf milking goats.

I love all the mommas with their babies, ducks and geese included. But mother hens with her chicks are just so adorable.

It's so cute when they're spread out and momma finds a tid-bit and calls them.

They all come running at once and the first gets it. Then the chase is on trying to get it away from the other,

How could anyone NOT smile watching them?
