Chicken dog question. I have bear, thanks to Buster. Bear is great, we have bonded and he is excellant with the birds. It is going to get hot before long. I know that their long thick coat is part of their defense in case of a coyote ot other large varmit fight. My question. Is it ok to shear these type dogs so they do not get so blasted hot, or is better to leave them with the hot coat for protection. He is my first dog of this type and just want to do what is best for him.

The fur is suppose to be a natural insulator to help keep the dog cooler. We leave ours long & they will dig a hole in the shade to cool off. Or go down and wade through the creek & pond. Biggest problem is avoiding the giant holes in the yard! DH goes around trying to fill them in, but I just learn to walk around the holes.

Thanks. I don't know enough about file types to convert them. My program will only let me cut svg files, if anyone knows how to covert it I will be happy to cut some out.
This website converts from jpg to svg right online for you.

Mitzi, next time you crack a turkey egg open look to see if it is fertile-- check for the bullseye on the yolk.
Oh, I didn't even think to tell you-we (my daughter and I) checked both the other night when I cooked them and they were both fertile. But I do see the tom 'miss' a lot. He doesn't have good aim, it's quite hilarious. The hen will have got up and walked away and he's still going at it. The male species leaves a lot to be desired

Shaving just their stomach works real well. Then they can lay in water puddles or on the cool ground or concrete and cool their stomachs off.
