I've got some good strong peeping coming from the bator already, I'm thinking that's a good sign

Kass You should try the poke salad I think you'll like it, we used to take old tow sacks and gather it a ton of it to cook down and freeze for eating later in the year since the plant is only tender when small and doesn't take long before it's too late to gather it.

I love poke salad. Haven't had any in a long long time!

My new to me foraging book says peel young poke sprouts & dip in cornmeal & fry. I only knew about boiled & poke cooked in bacon. Bought 3 lbs of bacon tonight to go with my poke salad!
Also found a chicken use for poke salad. Take pieces of the root & put in the chickens water to prevent disease. Doubt I will add the root to my birds water, but I sure plan on eating some greens.

May send the kids hunting for morels, I personally don't like mushrooms. My sisters kids will be here all weekend, mushroom hunting will be a fun adventure for them.

ETA--- everyone needs a copy of stalking the wild asparagus! Pure entertainment! Just came to the section that tells you how to prepare raccoon, opossum, muskrat & woodchuck! Seriously!!!! Wonder how many books published today would provide suggestions on how to prepare such items for a meat course -- actually I don't think I have ever read a book that even uses the term meat course!

We did manage to get one tree in the ground last night, the peach that was starting to suffer. Debating whether to stay home and try to plant a few more on my own or take my girls to the medieval fair in norman today.... decisions, decisions.....

New Coop done!!! Working on the run now - babies want out into this wonderful spring weather. Went by atwoods yesterday - when they were unpacking chicks and had to pick up some more bantams.. I hope I just found some silver seabright chicks... at least they look just like them!!
