***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So where did you get the spools from??? I've been looking for some to make teeter totters for my goats. Hope I spelled that right. lol Anyone going to NewCastle today?

Just a little FYI for information junkies (like me)...

Jimson Weed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datura_stramonium

Nightshade: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atropa_belladonna

Interesting factoid >>>> Food members of the nightshade family include:

A link to good pics of poke weed:

It grows everywhere around here and it's nearly impossible to get rid of or kill.

My next door neighbor is 91 next week, and every spring she's scrambling around the acreage behind us looking for poke weed shoots. Always offers some but I have to pass on it.

She boasts of it keeping you 'regular' and laughs.

I have 2 of stephs raised beds full of good soil, and a third over 3/4 completed. More to go just getting too hot out there. Been taking breaks to clean the brooders and brooder building, cleaned the catch trays in the cages, culled through the birds a bit and set a absolute keep cage, another "bug eater needs a new home cage" I still need to shuffle some birds and make room by next weekend when sooner comes to visit as well as need to work on all the lawn equipment. Not looking real good for getting much of that done by sunday evening.

We got spools from the guy we bought our tractor from. The goats LOVE them. If they are locked in their pen they are on this spools. No auction tonight. It is the 5th Saturday. We plan on being at Newcastle next wk though.

Aw crap. Ok. lol Guess I should pay better attention. Well. Guess we won't be doing anything today. haha

on another note. I might be getting two turkeys and a male peacock. I want the peacock but I'm not so sure about the turkeys. I have to figure out where I would even put these birds. But they would be rescues my uncle is an animal control officer in El Reno. Waiting to see.

Good info on the auctions around the state. I had no idea that some of those even existed.

It sounds like most everyone is out getting chores done today on this nice, warm spring day. I love spring!

Today while checking on the birds I found that one of the Serama chicks that hatched last month appears to be going lame. Don't know what's going on with it other than it's having trouble moving one of it's legs. It sticks that leg straight out in front of it and doesn't put pressure on it when I try to stand it up. I only briefly checked it over for injuries but will give it a more thorough check a little later today. It's been placed in a box by itself with food and water.

Nathanael's birthday is Monday so he wanted his "mommy/daddy birthday date" today. We always take them and spend the day how ever they want and they pick where we eat lunch. He wanted to go to Mary's Swapmeet, Build A Bear, TGIFridays, and then walmart to get a new game. Mary's was BUSY!!!! He found a couple of OEGB hens but after I pointed out if we bought birds that was the end of our day. I didn't think those birds wanted to be in the hot car all day, lol. He agreed and found himself some new books and a toy motorcycle instead. The mall was suprisingly quiet for a Sat. IMO. Wish I could say the same about Walmart, lol. I hate that place with a passion but Nathanael had a gift card from his Nana. So glad to be home now.
I need to get some laundry done and clean the brooders in the house but thinking I may kick back for a few mins.
