Okay here is my little "barred rock" chick we aren't sure what he/she is. Bought at auction with 11 other barred rock chicks. The other chicks are 2/3 bigger than this little guy. His barring is brown not white like the others. He/she feathered out at the same time as the others but he just quit growing like they did. He is as active as they are but now got moved to the 1 week old brooder because he was getting hurt by the others running him over. He/she is 3 weeks almost 4 weeks old now. But no where near the size of all the other chicks his age. (sorry for the bad pics, only had my phone to take pics with)

lol DH told me last night "A watched egg never hatches"

I'm just so afraid they're dead, then again there's nothing to do if they are, so might as well wait

It's possible that they are fine but just can't move around any more. There isn't room for wiggling, since they've grown to fill the shell. If I was one day away from hatching, I'd be resting for the effort needed to pip, zip, and hatch.

Cityclucks if the GP isn't claimed we may be interested in her. If she is chicken friendly & gets a parvo shot. (coyotes have left traces of parvo all around here) My mail GP doesn't like other large male dogs, he gets very aggressive towards them but not medium or small dogs. I would assume he wouldn't tear after a female dog, since Girls are much more interesting. We have 2 mini Australian shepherds but they don't wrestle around the yard with our GP very often. Ours still has lots of puppy in him & there are times where he really wants a playmate.

Wanted to share a photo of my new California Valley quail, 2 pair, just picked them up from the post office this morning. They flew in from New Mexico. Right now they are in a "anti-bonk" quarantine pen...apologize for quality, but you can see the jest of them...

It's entirely possible another egg got mixed in unless they securely pen their birds.

Some people from Pryor called last night in response to the "Found" ad I put on Craigslist. They have goats - and coyotes - and want her to hang out with their goats. I don't know anything about her and told them I have no idea how she'll act toward goats, but they said they'd train her. I thought she showed a little too much interest in my chickens when she first saw them, but since then she's laid outside their run and kept an eye on them without going up to the fence...I don't know if she is saying "chicken dinner" in her mind or what...I'm too scared to find out...

That is kind of what I am figuring, he/she has to be some type of bantam I guess since he is so small. I figure we will hang on to him/her and see what it grows up to be, lol. I didn't know if hatchings had runts or not, lol. So we have just been calling it "Runt". No way am I moving it out to the feed house brooder with it's siblings this week though. I will keep moving it down to the current weeks hatch until it grows a bit more. Poor thing was just getting trampled by the bigger birds before.

They're beautiful! Do they, by any chance, tame up any better than Coturnix? I've never seen any of those around here, I really like how they look.
Edit: Ijust figured out what "anti bonk" must mean. I guess they don't tame up well? lol
