I was getting out my bean seeds to soak so I can plant them tonight or tomorrow, anyway I have two seed pkts that I knew were especially decorative bean plants that I intend to plant in an edible flower bed. What I didn't know until I opened the seed pkts is how beautiful the seeds were too! They are scarlet runner bean which are purple mottled bean seed, and purple hiacynth, which Okla sent me, they are black w/ a single solid white line, very elegant. I want to know just where these bean seeds were when I was making bean and pasta art in grade school?

City clucks, They are awfully brave to put a dog that big around goats without knowing its history! Our GP at first would grab the goats by their hind legs to try & wrestle with them like he does with the other dogs. Now our goats are bigger & Carmel will stand up on 2 legs & charge the GP. She only tries to headbutt our Australian Shepard to get her point across but the GP has pushed his luck to many times.
I think if I wasn't home to watch over him he would have really hurt the goats at first (especially the fainting goats).
Hope the GP doesn't mess with your birds while you ate waiting for it to go to its new home! Evidently it was never around birds. Most dogs that have been raised with birds don't seem to notice them.

I agree Christina! I told these people I didn't know what she'd do around the goats...I have trained my little dog to ignore the chickens and other animals, but he's maybe 20 pounds...training a 90 pound dog might be a different matter!

How old was your JRT when you got chickens? We have two JRTs ten and eleven years old. Both would go after the chickens in a heartbeat. They were leash dogs until we moved to Tulsa area over a year ago. I just don't let them in the yard alone when the chickens are out. BTW I have a nearly new bag of layer pellets that my two pullets don't like, you are welcome to it if you want it. We are near 31st and Yale.

I was just looking at my Self-blue babies again and at least one has yellow feet! That is very important if we want the color to be recognized by the APA. The experienced breeder are planning for 2018. I just hope I can help.
I should post pics of my progress. The roo I got from Grace sure improved the type allot. My foundation Self-blue hens hardly look like Cochins and they have black feet. The F1s are all black and I got only one pullet. Her type isn't as good as the F1 roo (his is almost as good as his Dad's) but she lays 6 out 7 days a week.

Awww this makes me so happy! I'm glad you are making such good progress, and I'm glad my rooster was able to help =)

They're beautiful! Do they, by any chance, tame up any better than Coturnix? I've never seen any of those around here, I really like how they look.
Edit: Ijust figured out what "anti bonk" must mean. I guess they don't tame up well? lol

Hi Johnorem - Titus was about 8 years old when I first got chickens. He will still go after squirrels and stray cats that wander into the yard (he lives "our" cats alone), but he is trained not to even look at the chickens. That being said, if I were to leave him out with the birds free-ranging and came home to a yard full of dead chickens, it would be my own fault. Thanks for the offer of the layer pellets! I'll take it! I'll PM you later this afternoon for pick-up arrangements if that's okay - I'm near downtown - but am late to a meeting and have to go right now!
