***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I think guineas are cool looking, I would have some if I didn't live in town for tick/insect control and photo opportunities. I've heard they are noisy, but would think it would be like living next to a train pretty soon you don't even hear it, it just becomes background noise. It's the pea fowl I don't think I could ever get used to hearing, a woman screaming for help.

Completely agree w/ you on that. We lived a mile or so from peacocks growing up and the constant Help! got annoying. I don't mind the buckwheat call. I like it and unless they are right by the house I don't hear it when I'm inside. They very rarely do the alarm call. Usually only when my kids are outside chasing them

Could whoever does the vinyl decorative cutting things pm me. I forget who does it, but I'm interested if whoever it is could do some work for me

Just a quote to go on a wall. Thanks!

Hi everybody! I finally got caught up on the posts..whew! I had a bunch of babies hatch this weekend and they are doing great. I have left the others in the bator for a bit just in case there are some late hatchers. One of my golden salmon chicks keeps falling on his back and then can't get back up. He is fine while he is up and runs all over. But then he will either just roll over or get stuck on his back. When he does fall over he does not look distressed, it is more of an "Oh Crud!" look. He does hop around sometimes instead of walk. Is there anything I should do? Will he get over this do you think? Maybe I should give him some poly-visol? He looks so cute looking up at me with that "Little help" face.

Artsyrobin That is a beautiful rooster, makes me wish I had not sold my bantams!

Thanks I'll look tomorrow. Will fish emolsion or epsom salts add magnesium?

Spider mites will have a very fine web and you can tap them off the leaves onto paper. I bet yu have flea beetles...sit quietly be the plants and see if you see tiny jumping bugs return to your leaves....they are not fleas...but beetles. They attack Eggplant and tomatoes as well as lettuce and sometimes the brassicas.
Neem is really good and organic and will nto hurt the birds. It does kill beneficial insects so spray in the late evening to avoid the bees. I often pick off the lady bugs and move them to other plants when I spray with neem
Yellow leaves can also indicate a mineral deficiency..magnesium.. A little compost tea helps...as a foliar spray.

I detest cutworms...squish evry one I find. I also have a little hungry bunny in the garden.....got two tomaote and 5 peppers.

You were right I saw them flea beetles, will the neem kill them quickly? I'll need to get some tomorrow. If I spray the area that is affected will they go to other areas of the garden?

What's worse...waiting 3 weeks for the eggs to hatch or the 5 or so months before you can see what color the chicken lays? Ugg. I hatched my first batch of olive eggers (Welsummer x Lav Ameracuana) in January. Yesterday my second batch of olive eggers (FBCM x Lav Ameracuana) started to hatch. Really excited to see what color eggs I end up with. I guess one of my Ameracuanas carries the dominant white gene. One that hatched this morning is white with feathered legs. So hoping it is a girl!!!

Sent you a PM

Our bugs are so bad this yr DH offered to expend the free range guinea coop so I can have 50 free range. I agree the more guineas the merrier! If they will take out the ticks & grasshoppers they can make all the noise they want!

God save me from these shameless enablers!!!
I'm looking at Silver Laced and Gold Laced LF Cochins right now along with the Lemon Blues....Ya know.....I've got a couple acres here I can fence......I could make yards for different colored big Cochins......I'll think on it for a few wks. If I still want to in a few wks then I'll know I'm not going to change my mind.

I go the Silver Laced Pair, and also have a Lemon Blue Pair. Need to check with Nocityboy to see if me eggs were good.
