***OKIES in the BYC III ***

This is why we don't have any geese! We had one when I was a kid and that thing hated me! Chased me anytime it was out of it's pen and would bite me. I have very vivid memories of than dang goose!!! Hubby threatens at every auction he is going to bring one home. He knows better......

yep- i have had to put our gander in time out a couple times a day- i mean, attacking a sleeping blind dog?? geeze! nope - don't think geese are meant for me- ducks, no problem

I really think that the oyster shell isn't ground up small enough for the Serama's to eat. I tried putting some oyster shell in a baggie and pounding it with a hammer. That didn't do much but make a mess, and using my blender is out of the question. It would probably ruin the blades. So... to make it easier on everyone, I'll probably go back to the layer feed, too.

what about the calcium for pet birds? wouldn't that be small enough??

Kass! I am thrilled for you!! and leave it to coral to get it together like that...

A hammer would probably work to grind down the oyster shell, or a coffee bean grinder. But you're right-a lot of trouble to go through. Then again maybe it's the horomone problem like the vet said, too.

Christina, one of the 3 Modern Bantam eggs I've got in the incubator has had a crack down the side for a week. We put tape on it, I hope it makes it. The baby is ALIVE in there and after opening one up the other day that I'd (evidently) cracked by accident and seeing how formed the baby was I can't bring myself to put it in the freezer.

Does anyone know who brought the Silver Lace LF Cochin eggs to Newcastle last week? I could only fit 6 in the small incubator I've got so I was going to give the other 6 to someone else. But me and her can't seem to get together and my new incubator will be here Friday so I think I'm going to set them in the new incubator. I just candled a couple of them (only been 4 days) and I actually saw veins already, I didn't realize you could see veins at 4 days. It'd just be nice if I knew who brought them although I know it's a long shot. Hey-I saw veins and now I'm so excited I can hardly stand it lol

For such a small bird just egg shells should be enough for them or sift the oyster shell in a tea strainer and give the bigger pieces to the LF if you have them.. I used to grind chicken feed in a blender for my meal worms and the blender I used I got real cheap at a yard sale the wife was glad I wasn't using hers she thought the chicken feed was too nasty to use her blender LOL I once set a plate of leftovers on the floor for the dog to clean up and when I wasn't looking she soaked it in bleach as if just hot water and dish soap wouldn't be able to clean off the dogs saliva

I have only 2 colors of iris I had some others but drought took them out, in my pond I started a couple different colors of water iris along with lilly's, rushes, and parrots feather but the ducks seem to favor the parrots feather so it's going away fast

Mitzi I think those eggs came from Bo but I could be wrong. I say set them on Friday, since you must test out that new incubator.
I will be curious to see if the repaired egg hatches.

Neighbor came did a temporary fix on the fence. I am sure with dozens of calves running around we will have more visiting our yard soon. Now I am trying to get the girls to eat dinner & get ready for bed. They are so cranky having testing at school all wk.

Looks like the electricity stayed on the rest of the day, yeah!!! I have four of five eggs pipped. Woohoo! Now HATCH!

Ksane - exciting to see life stirring isn't it

I didn't realize he had Silver Laces, there might've been more than one person with Silver Laces also. I don't recall the auctioneer saying who's eggs they were and I was listening for that, with other eggs from Bo I know they made a point of saying so.
This hatching thing is addicting!!

Okay I've got the first round of pics ready.

Bill, if she thought mealworms were too good for her precious blender and a little bit of dog slobber would hurt a glass plate then all I gotta say is good riddance to her! That is NO kind of woman haha

I do think iris are pretty, but never have grown anything except shrubs & herbs & veggies.
Spent all day in town serving lunch to DH drills & cadre. Came home to 2 bulls fighting where our property meets the neighbors. Evidently they broke a corner post because now I have a group of calves grazing in my yard. So I am on watch until the owner gets here to round them all back up & fix the fence.
Guineas are laying well, hope we have good fertility. So far 8 dz eggs to set tomorrow! ***** came home to a nasty smell today. An egg was cracked in the incubator. I had candled them last night. Guessing one got cracked when we put them back. I removed the egg sprayed with oxine now the smell is MUCH better! First time I have ever smelt the incubator can't imagine how nasty it would be if several eggs broke!
We will probably have 3 dozen for you on Sat. Ours are laying really good now (of course I just said that they will quit, lol). We had an egg crack in the incubator today, hubby noticed it. Glad to know we can spray the oxine in there while it is going because I will do that to get rid of the smell. Hubby just got home with our "new to us" incubator! I can't wait to see it all set up and running but that will have to wait a few days.
