Just got back from OKC, Dept of Ag...went through the NPIP tester class. Glad it's over...and my hen I took is too. Not everyone there followed instructions and didn't bring a bird. The instructor told me, "Well, guess your hen is going to get a few pokes." My response, "She's got two wings, after that she goes in the truck." Not my fault people can't follow instructions.
On another note, the instructor said that if there is enough people interested, he was going to do a class in Tulsa next month...
Give them a call at 405-522-6139 to schedule for the next class...
haha, been there done that. the 27 we raised were in the garage cause it wasn't legal for us to have chickens. The guineas were not far behind the smell of the cornishx![]()
The rooster met DD again today when she got off the bus. She gave him some leftover spaghetti noodles & he was happy. I am scared the other birds are going to catch on & we will have a whole flock of chickens welcoming the girls each day. Good thing there is only a few wks left of school.
The birds spent the day sunbathing while I worked in the yard. I will say those fly bags we hung around the barn are becoming NASTY! But I don't find flies everywhere, so they are doing there job.
Got a letter that porter hill is having a general merchandise auction Friday night then birds on Saturday. We use to have several good auctions around Lawton but they all have left. Maybe this will turn into a good misc auction. Just not sure they have enough space to consign much.
I am the same way. Luckily hubby did it. He didn't like it, but he did it. Those poor babies weren't going to get better.June, you've just got to be on Cloud 9! That's just wonderful, you've worked so hard.
Poop is normal now, was loose but they also had a lot of cow manure all over them. I'm pretty sure they were raised with a broody out somewhere which would explain a lot. And they could've been exposed to any number of a thousand things. It seems if chickens are going to make it, they're going to make and if they're not they won't. What I hate is when they're sick for months dragging it out then they finally die. I don't usually have the heart to put them out of their misery but lots of times that's what needs done, it's selfish of me to be so gutless. These 3 have been isolated from all the others, I was really surprised they made it til the next day the night I got them. They were/are in rough shape.
testing testing 1 2 3. any here, is this thing on? heeeelllllllooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
wooo hoooo! i think it is working!!!!!
for the moment.
This is the most darling little bird! Tiny bearded little hen
It's scary addicting :-O Last night I candled the eggs I set Saturday, they were only on Day 3 and I saw veins! My husband got me a super strong little LED flashlight to candle with. I'm amazed I can see veins so soon. Today they're even clearer and darker. This "candling flashlight" cost more than I'd have spent, I'm glad he just went ahead and got it instead of asking me 1st or I wouldn't have it. My Gold Laced & Silver Laced Cochin eggs won't get here in the mail til this weekend or maybe even early next week. So I'm trying to figure out how to arrange eggs between the 2 incubators to get them all fit in.
Rebecca, I'd love to see pics of the babies. I've got 4 set from same parents as one your hatches. The Splash color is pretty much solid yellow at hatch.
I hope the Splash boy is doing good at your house. Any problems for any reason and I'll take him back. Just want you to know that.
That is an odd looking machine. Are they several hundred dollars? If I could ever bring myself to raise a batch of meat birds and process them I'd want the right equipment to do it.
Instead of slitting their throats it'd be easier on them to shoot them in the head I would think. Is there a reason it's normally not done that way?
